Utilities Operator
Location

The Position: This function exists to run and maintain the utility systems that support the plant. This includes troubleshooting equipment or process problems and effective communication with peers.
What you will do:
- Direct start-up and shutdown of utilities units. Heavy involvement in start-up of process units based on utility usage. Utilities processes include, but are not limited to: steam and condensate (boilers), hot oil vapor and condensate (furnaces), water and wastewater treatment plant, plant air (compressors), and nitrogen.
- Monitor DCS system and respond to process alarms and information by making appropriate adjustments.
- Monitor process performance (samples, observations of levels, temperature, etc.), and responding to deviations, including appropriate troubleshooting. Inform shift supervisor of any adjustments in operating or equipment conditions
- Respond to emergency operations.
- Participation as needed in incident investigations, Management of Change, and Process Hazard Analysis/LOPA.
- Active involvement in training of new operators in UTB, and review of procedures and readings for the area.
What you will bring:
- Level of education & knowledge:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of college with emphasis in math and science or a Chemical Process Operator Certificate preferred.
- Experience in general:
- Five years as a Process Operator preferred with at least one year of experience managing steam boiler and waste water systems.
- Five years as a Process Operator preferred with at least one year of experience managing steam boiler and waste water systems.
- Technical skills:
- Requires a high degree of initiative and ingenuity to work with production, contractors, engineering, maintenance craft persons and other site functions.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of required safety regulations and area standard operating procedures is a must.
- Demonstrated ability to perform lockouts of complex hazardous material systems with little or no assistance.
- Demonstrated ability to write and review operating procedures
- Competencies, Behavioral skills:
- Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
- Must have the capability to set priorities, make decisions while taking ownership and responsibility to follow through.
- Flexibility in changing own and other’s work priorities on short notice.
- Trains and teaches others regularly.
- Physical demands:
- Continuous standing, walking and alternate sitting/standing above 8 hours, balancing, climbing, reaching above shoulder level, and simple/firm grasping with both hands.
- Frequent simple grasping and firm manipulation with both hands.
- Frequent lifting up to 11-20lbs, carrying up to 10lbs, pushing/pulling while standing, crouching, kneeling, twisting/turning, and exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels and wet conditions. Climbing stairs and ladders.
- Occasional lifting/carrying up to 11-50lbs, viewing Monitor CTR, traveling, pushing/pulling while seated, crawling, fine manipulation with both hands and exposure to dust/gas fumes, chemicals/solvents, allergic agents, reduced light levels and electrical sources.
- Medical clearance to wear a full-face respirator.
- Must be willing to work a rotating/swing shift schedule and to work outdoors in all types of weather.

The hourly rate for this position typically ranges between $40.16 and $48.82. Additionally, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus as part of their total compensation package. This salary range is an estimate based on factors such as candidate qualifications, operational needs, and business performance metrics. Actual compensation may vary above or below the stated range, as permitted by applicable laws in Illinois.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At INEOS Styrolution, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are carefully made based on the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
