Job Context, Responsibilities & Accountabilities

We are Europe's largest olefin producer with four of Europe’s most highly integrated and differentiated crackers. We produce 5.5 million tonnes per annum of olefins and aromatics, and 3 million tonnes of polyolefins, covering the full spectrum of polyethylene density (LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE) and polypropylene. With 14 polyolefin production units in operation, on 8 production sites in Europe, we operate a wide set of manufacturing technologies (several of them being proprietary) which makes us able to produce polymers which are specifically tailored to provide high value solutions to customers in our chosen market sectors.

The job of TS&D Engineer is part of the Technology organization within the O&P Europe Business Unit. In a federal manner, it ensures technical support and development for the benefit of several INEOS regions or divisions involved in polyolefin sales.

The job holder will be one point of accountability for all technical matters related to the Injection-moulding, Blow-moulding, Thermoforming & Distribution markets and applications, including:

  • Technical support to sales and assistance to INEOS customers
  • Promotion and technical marketing of existing and new products
  • New product developments
  • Technical support to manufacturing assets and resin quality monitoring

It is a multi-interface function requiring a sense of coordination and influence on:

  • Asset portfolio: influence decision on resins to be proposed/developed
  • Business: influence the long term strategy through technical recommendations
  • Manufacturing: define & implement EPT/Product specifications, decide on grade rationalisation - SPA for specific resins – recommend QC measures to ensure product compliance with CSS
  • Customers/Market: recognized as an expert for target market, technical marketing, conference/symposium
  • Machine producer, End user, Standard committees: recognized as a polymer expert
  • Product portfolio: deliver product development projects and ensure technology transfer to industrial assets

Level of accountabilities:

  • SPA for all technical developments related to the applications under area of accountability.
  • Technical expertise to European accounts
  • Technical advisor to Asset sales Leaders + Business Manager + Product Manager for portfolio decisions

Leading projects:

  • Identify and translate new market demands into new developments for Business approval.
  • Deliver product and application development projects, meeting objectives in time, in scope, on budget.
  • Support execution at industrial scale (Experimental Plant Trial – EPT)

Internal recognition:

  • Technical advisor and recognized expert for the PO sales community and the Business,
  • Market analysis and competitive Intelligence for the Injection-moulding, Blow-moulding and Thermoforming market segments
  • Invited speaker at sales internal meetings

External recognition:

  • Expert recognized within the market (e.g. end users, machine manufacturers, standardization committees)
  • Oral presentations given during conference/symposium

Key Skills & Knowledge and Competencies Required

Education and Experience

University graduate with a degree in chemistry, Material Science or equivalent

An experience in product development or technical service is a plus and will be properly valued in the Hay grading of the role, but is not a pre-requisite

Technical skills

  • Expertise in polymer industry/research with ideally an experience in polymer processing and polymer characterization
  • Ability to lead technical projects with an analytical and pragmatic approach
  • Ability to analyse options against cost, value, risk and consequences. Focus on cost reduction and value added

Behavioural skills

  • Innovative mind-set
  • High autonomy, pro-activity, able to take “ad hoc” decision
  • Good ownership of problems and results oriented (finding solutions)
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to focus on deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
