Trade Control and Risk Analyst

Organisational context and job purpose

The role reports to the Trade Control Manager based in London.

The Trade Control Analyst is responsible for the control and reporting functions with the London and Houston team for INEOS Energy Trading businesses globally (Europe and US currently) with management information measuring procurement, hedging performance and development, and involved in delivery of a full suite of trading risk controls measures (market, credit, and cash risk) against agreed benchmarks. He/she is responsible for adherence to well defined trade controls within a strict framework of delegated authorities. He/she is responsible for ensuring data integrity and systems (Allegro/Horizon/FEA) for all existing and developing exposure management and entrepreneurial trading activities based in Houston.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Ensure the trade control daily and monthly activities are performed on a timely manager
  • Support systems for the control function with respect to exposure management and MI systems.
  • Manage trade control systems where we use Allegro/Horizon/FEA and suggest improvements
  • Ensure paper trading activity is settled promptly and make sure profits are allocated to correct profit centres
  • Supervise daily/weekly/monthly trading exposure and daily profit & loss reporting.
  • Work with Finance to ensure reconciliation of management information to financial accounts is completed and issues are addressed.
  • Support new business activities and ensure trade control and risk aspects are covered in the assurance process.
  • Be proactive and apply the control when required
  • Pick up adhoc queries and provide solution to the business
  • Act as the focal point between office functions

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • Financial or STEM qualification.
  • Proven track record in a trading control/risk

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of the oil/gas commodities trading industry, markets, products, and exchanges.
  • Previous exposure to trading risk
  • Understanding of accounts and accounting procedures (accrual and mark to market).

Behavioural Skills

  • Ability to challenge sensitive issues constructively whilst maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Represent control functions in a new team
  • Maintain close contact with international team and manager
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential issues with the appropriate teams or stakeholders.
