Organizational context and job purpose
The Olefins & Polymers USA division of INEOS is one of the largest producers of olefins and polyolefins in North America. From its manufacturing locations at Chocolate Bayou and the Battleground Manufacturing Complex, it is a merchant marketer of butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene and high-density polyethylene with annual revenue of over $4b.
The Chocolate Bayou Site is located in Southeastern Texas about 40 miles South of Houston and consists of two Olefins units that produce approximately 3bn pounds/year of ethylene, 2 Polypropylene units that produce approximately 800m pounds/ year of polypropylene, and the Light Ends storage & transfer facilities at Stratton Ridge.
How the Role Fits In:
The Masterbatch Technician is part of a two-person work crew and works a rotating shift requiring work on days, nights, and weekends. Masterbatch Technicians who demonstrate capability to perform in a lead role will have the opportunity to serve as Lead Masterbatch Technician on their crew when designated.
The Masterbatch Technician is responsible for safe, accurate and efficient preparation of additive masterbatches in accordance to recipes specified by INEOS Engineering for each polypropylene product grade at CBW. The role is responsible for proper additive selection as specified by the recipe, masterbatch preparation, delivery of masterbatches to the production units, and documentation of activities in electronic systems.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
- The position is accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.
Accountability: Work Duties
- Operate mixing equipment for masterbatch preparation following designated operating procedures.
- Retrieve masterbatch recipes from the computerized inventory system.
- Accurately select and weigh the required additives from inventory based on recipe requirements.
- Document masterbatch components using handheld scanners and paper records.
- Record activities for each shift in designated logs or spreadsheets.
- Monitor production schedule changes.
- Perform all tasks and functions in compliance with safety and operating procedures.
- Strictly adhere to masterbatch recipes, operating procedures, and verification requirements.
- Follow safe driving requirements for delivery of materials to the production units and for operation of forklifts.
- Follow site requirements for completing permits and lock-out/tag-out of equipment.
- Utilize safe lifting techniques.
- Perform duties as assigned in support of Polymers Operations
- Lead masterbatch technicians will have these additional responsibilities:
- Participate in coordination of the work schedule, including handling call-offs (sick, vac) and call-ins on nights and weekends.
- Communicate with supervision to coordinate operational or personnel scheduling issues.
- Communicate with Polymers Operators to confirm masterbatch requirements for each shift.
- Provide leadership and coordinate work for other technician(s) on shift.
- Participate in training of new technicians
- Communicate with Materials Management Coordinator and Materials Handling Technician in regard to additive staging locations, inventory concerns, or packaging issues.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with solid mixing operations preferred
- Prior experience in a Petrochemical Manufacturing or Gas Processing Facility is a plus.
- Prior warehouse or solids handling experience is preferred.
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Must have valid driver’s license and be capable of obtaining a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
- Must be flexible and willing to handle a wide variety of responsibilities.
- Shift work (days, nights, weekends) required.
- Occasional overtime will be required.
- Knowledge of INEOS's organization and procedures is a plus.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Basic computer skills (including EXCEL, WORD)
