Technical Product Support (TPS) Chemist

The INEOS Performance Chemicals (IES) business covers the production, the supply and sales of catalysts and additives using in the production of EDC and PVC respectively. These products are sold internally to INOVYN plants, to INOVYN’s licensees and to external customers on a worldwide basis. Overall there are approx. 25 products, the most important being, in terms of EBITDA generators, antifouling for PVC production and fixed bed catalyst for EDC production. These products are manufactured on a toll basis in Europe, US and Japan and  there is also a relatively small internal production in Jemeppe of antifouling agent.  

The IES business operates with high focus on product/customer portfolio optimisation and new product development and there are strong synergies with the General Purpose Vinyls business, as well as the RTE team in Runcorn, Jemeppe and Porto Marghera.

We are looking for a Technical Product Support (TPS) Chemist to join the IES team to provide technical support in order to meet objectives in line with the IES business strategy. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide technical services for additives customers
    • Respond to all technical queries related to the use of IPC additives for customers (PVC plants) in Europe, India and the Middle East
    • Attend on -site plant trials related to the use of IPC additives and make decisions on how to conduct the test and how to respond to PVC quality parameters
  • To provide technical service to toll manufacturer
    • Decide and approve the manufacturing and selling specifications for the PVC additives, including test methods for Quality control purposes
  • Define customer requirements and propose potential product innovations
  • Together with the Commercial team, prepare and present product documentation to support the sales of existing and new PVC additives

Skills and experience required

  • Masters degree in Chemistry with previous experience in PVC technology is mandatory 
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of French and/or Italian and/or Japansese would be advantageous
  • Previous experience of working with multicultural teams and in managing technical and marketing relationships required
  • Strong knowledge of process, products & technologies in the plastic industry with the ability to detect opportunities and transform them into new business opportunities
  • Strong technical and marketing skills to detect and develop new market opportunities.
  • Ability to manage development projects, both from technical & marketing point of view.
  • Ability to think outside the box and to challenge the status quo
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
