Organizational Context:

With LAO manufacturing facilities in Canada and Belgium, INEOS Oligomers is one of the large merchant suppliers of Linear Alpha Olefins (LAO).

 LAO is used in a variety of industries, with main markets being comonomers for polyethylene, feedstock for production of lubricants, surfactants, lubricant additives, and paper sizing chemicals, and base stock for drilling fluids. PAO is a synthetic lubricant.

As part of its growth strategy, INEOS Oligomers invested $500 million in a new world-scale LAO & PAO production facility to be located on INEOS Olefins & Polymers site in Chocolate Bayou, Alvin, Texas. 

The Oligomers Chocolate Bayou plant located in Alvin, Texas has a summer internship available for the summer of 2023.  The site would like to host one Chemical Engineering student for a nine-week internship duration.

Job Scope:

During this internship, the student will be partnered with the operations department.  The intern will be assigned a term project in addition to hands-on day-to-day work representative of the profession.  Typical responsibilities of engineering intern would be:

Typical responsibilities of an engineering intern would be

  • Abide by site safety policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for promoting safety leadership through the implementation of the INEOS 20 principles. 

  • Assist in updating isometric drawings per management of change procedure.

  • Design and execute small capital projects <$100k.

  • Able to interpret and walk down P&IDs.

  • Organize and catalogue historical documents

  • Provide engineering support to operations and technical departments

  • Participate in process engineering and design projects to optimize plant performance

  • Assist in safety activities including Lock Out Tag Out, RCA’s, HAZOP’s, etc. as available.

Skills Required

Level of education & Experience in general

  • Sophomore year Chemical Engineering student minimum

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Exposure to CAD drawings and P&IDs

ADA Physical requirements, visual acuity requirements and environmental conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands. The employee must occasionally walk and stand. Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

The employee must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.

Work Environment:  This job is performed mainly in a temperature-controlled office environment.
