Job Context, Responsibilities & Accountabilities
INEOS is one of the largest petrochemical companies in the world and one of the largest employers in the Belgian chemical industry. INEOS today counts in Belgium 12 production and R&D sites and 3150 employees.
The Statutory and Tax Accountant will be responsible to establish the local statutory accounts and tax returns for the Belgian entities of the business. He will ensure that the companies comply with Belgian accounting, IFRS and corporate taxes rules. This requires very good knowledge and follow up of new laws to ensure accurate and updated information. All records are based on a mix of IFRS and Belgian accounting rules, that requires deep analysis on variances between the 2 accounting legislations.
Key responsibilities
Statutory Accounting
- Prepare and maintain statutory accounts for legal entities in accordance with Belgian Gaap
- Ensure statutory books and records are accurate, complete, and audit‑ready.
- Analyse and reconcile differences between IFRS and local GAAP.
- Coordinate and support external statutory audits.
- Ensure compliance with local company law (e.g. Code of Companies and Associations).
Tax Compliance
- Prepare and submit corporate income tax returns and related filings
- Calculate tax estimation, and prepayment taxes amount over the year
- Monitor and implement new tax legislation affecting the entities
- Support tax audits and interactions with tax authorities
- Manage other tax‑related obligations such as:
- Investment deductions
- Withholding taxes
- Transfer pricing documentation
- BEPS / Pillar Two‑related reporting
Reporting & Controls
- Ensure statutory and tax deadlines are met in line with group calendars.
- Maintain strong internal controls over accounting and tax processes.
- Prepare statutory data for management, works councils, and group reporting.
- Liaise with business controllers, finance managers, and shared service teams.
Key Skills & Knowledge and Competencies Required
Education and Experience
Chartered Accountant with a tax specialisation, with 5 years’ experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a tax specialisation, with at minimum of 10 years’ experience
Specific Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of Belgian Gaap Accounting
- Knowledge of Belgian Corporate Taxes Rules
- Good knowledge of Transfer Price rules
- Understanding of strong internal control principles
- Able to work to tight deadlines and reporting timetables
- SAP knowledge (FI/CO) is an asset
