INEOS Olefins and Polymers USA is one of the largest integrated producers of olefins and polyolefins in North America.  From its manufacturing locations at Chocolate Bayou and LaPorte, Texas, it is a merchant marketer of butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene, and high-density polyethylene with annual revenue of over $2 billion.

How the Role Fits In:

CBW is the largest site in O&P USA and accurate, timely and relevant financial information is key for decision-making. This role, as a member of the CBW Finance team, will support Site Leadership and Corporate Finance. The role will support the day-to-day financial reporting activities for the site.

This position reports to the Assistant Site Controller.

The Main Purpose of the Role: 

The CBW Site Financial Analyst will ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, forecasting, and preparation of reports for Site Leadership, Business Managers, and members of the Executive Team. This role has frequent interaction and must build relationships within the site. A flexible work schedule is required to meet monthly, quarterly, and especially year-end financial book close deadlines. This role is a key part of the Site Finance Team ensuring the integrity of the P&L and Balance Sheet.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Provide necessary assistance during the monthly close process so that the financial results of our site are accurately completed on a timely basis.  This includes recording of accruals, service entries, goods receipts, overhead costs, utilities, third party and intercompany service bill-outs, payroll, etc.

  • Prepare, review and file monthly Sales & Use tax payments. This includes conducting analysis and researching transactional level details on invoices, Purchase Orders, Work Orders, WBS elements, etc.

  • Support property tax accounting functions such as posting monthly accruals, property tax payments, and journal entries.

  • Support capital projects accounting.

  • Support government surveys.

  • Support Product Line analysis/reporting as a back-up through cross-training efforts.

  • Support preparation of latest earnings estimate (Group Financial Outlook).  This includes analysis and explanation of significant changes from previous forecasts.     

  • Support annual performance plan (budget) for the Site.

  • Understand the cost allocation process within SAP as it relates to both internal reporting as well as product line reporting.

  • Assist with external and internal audits, including quarterly and year-end physical inventory counts and reconciliations.

  • Review the business unit balance sheet monthly and review/prepare account reconciliations to provide assurance on data integrity.

  • Develop educational material to promote financial and SAP knowledge across multiple site functions.

  • Provide oversight and support to the business unit delegation of authority and internal control environment by reviewing approvals on payment requests, price changes, inventory write offs, fixed asset dispositions and other transactions.

  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as required.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

Level of Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (for Grade 31 or 32)

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.  (for Grade 32)

  • Preference given to candidates with financial experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Chemical industries experience a plus

Skills and Competencies

Technical skills

  • Superior Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, are required. 

  • SAP FI/CO/MM module knowledge (knowledge of other modules also a plus)

  • Working knowledge of financial internal control processes.

Behavioral skills

  • Self-starting individual who can work with a minimum of direction.

  • Must have good communication skills and be able to discuss and explain financial transactions and processes in a clear and concise way to individuals across the organization.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills – a good portion of the work in this role is deadline driven.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently (70-100%) sitting.

  • Occasionally (30-60%) lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Infrequently (10% or less) ascending and descending stairs, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, and reaching at/below shoulder height.

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer screen, and extensive reading.

  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

  • This position requires the employee to always be alert, able to concentrate on their task at hand, and not impaired by medications (prescription, non-prescription, illegal or legal substances including alcohol), or any other mental condition which adversely affects alertness, concentration, or judgment.
