Site Director

The role provides overall leadership for the safe, reliable, legally compliant, environmentally sound, and profitable operation of the plant according to the strategy of business management. This includes managing and developing the organization, production, and process, ensuring cost efficiency and adherence to the quality standards. A key accountability is the continuous improvement of the site performance for development and future growth. It is classified as a Safety Critical role.

This role is the Asset Manager for INEOS Tyssedal.

INEOS Tyssedal located in Norway consists is the unique european producer and supplier of TiO2-slag and high purity pig iron. The site has a pre-reduction unit with a 70 m long rotary kiln, smelting furnace operating at 40 MW and a crushing unit.

The yearly capacity is around 210 kt of uncrushed chloride slag and 90 kt of high purity pig iron.

Accountabilities of the job:

1. SHEQ Excellence

  • Drive to SHE (including process safety) targets and demonstrate improvements for employees and contractors.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with 20 principles and Life Saving Rules.
  • Have employees and systems prepared to respond to site emergencies.
  • Ensure assets are maintained to operate within their designed parameters and appropriate standards.
  • Ensure robust safe work systems are in place and hazard assessments are performed (both process and behavioral).
  • Ensure that the organization complies and operates according to Quality Management Standards.


2. Budget

Prepare, agree, and ensure delivery of annual fixed cost budget. Lead the analysis of spend and the identification and implementation of cost improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with work management systems which allow control of work and spend.
  • Monitor performance to budget.
  • Lead regular expenditure reviews with team.
  • Develop bottom-up budget based on inputs from organization.
  • Act as primary contact for purchasing and provide support to fixed cost reduction / procurement excellence initiatives.

3. Reliability

  • Reliability (Production, Process and Maintenance): Drive operations performance to achieve MPR7 (Maximum Production Rate 7 days) for the site.

4. Leadership

  • Select, coach, and manage leaders for Operations, Maintenance & Engineering and HR departments, to ensure that INEOS standards and requirements are understood and complied with.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and decision making, to ensure employees understand company goals and have the knowledge and resources needed to accomplish them.

Required profile:

  • A Masters Degree, with a Master of Science degree preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience as a supervisor/manager, with highly developed knowledge of operations or maintenance.
  • Leadership/management skills
  • Knowledge or various electrical equipment, instruments and pneumatic devices is an advantage.
  • Knowledge or various equipment and machinery is an advantage
  • ISO System and procedures knowledge
  • Functionality with various computer programs
  • Six Sigma training a plus
