About the opportunity
Shift Process Technicians are responsible for day-to-day operation and monitoring of operating plant and services to achieve safe, reliable, efficient operation both in the field, and remotely through the use of a highly integrated DCS system.
Key Accountabilities
- As a Shift Process Technician, you will play a critical role in the day-to-day operation of production and services involved in the manufacture of our core acids products. Some of the typical responsibilities of a shift technician include controlling and monitoring plant performance and ensuring that it is maintained within its operating envelope at all times.
- We expect our Shift Process Technicians to be proactive in identification, resolution and reporting of issues that may compromise plant safety or reliability, working with colleagues from a variety of disciplines and service providers to ensure that safe operation is at the forefront of everything that we do;
- Shift Process Technicians are often involved in using mechanical and I&E skills that are necessary to carry out planned or unplanned plant preparations, and deal with emergent activities that, if not addressed, could escalate into issues that would compromise plant performance. We look to our Shift Process Technicians to offer suggestions to improve existing plant operating procedures;
- A significant portion of the site’s maintenance activity starts with the identification of an issue or potential issue by Shift Technicians. We expect our Shift Technicians to be fully conversant with, and actively use, the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System - SAP) to log high quality Notifications to enable efficient review and action by the Maintenance Planners;
- As a Shift Process Technician, you'll play a vital role in the management of plant upsets, shutdowns and restarts, following plant procedures and signing off activities where required to ensure safe and reliable operations. You will ensure that that appropriate controls, risk assessments and approvals are in place before activities which fall outside of standard procedures are followed, and it is expected that you proactively take steps to ensure compliance with required procedures:
- A key accountability of the Shift Process Technician is to play a leading role in the Control of work activities on the asset by becoming an issuing authority and is responsible for the issuing of Control of work documentation and putting people to work in their plant area. Ensuring that agreed controls are implemented, last minute risk assessments carried out and SIMOPs reviewed before allowing work to start.
- This is a varied and dynamic role, where personal accountability and a commitment to working as part of a team are required.
About you
To be successful you will have the following:
- Ability to operate effectively in a delivery-focussed and often fast-paced environment and should be able to show us evidence of successfully learning and adapting to new processes and procedures in a positive way.
- A good aptitude for IT systems is essential.
- Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team with a proven ability to meet challenging deadlines.
- A track record of following working instructions and complex procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify process improvements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence others positively.
Desirable Criteria & Qualifications
- NVQ level 3 qualifications or the equivalent level of experience in chemical plant or refinery operations would be preferred as well as a good level of formal qualifications (GCSE or equivalent) in relevant technical subjects.
- Some skills in mechanical or IE disciplines combined with a strong aptitude for learning new and complex processes would also be beneficial.
- Experience of working in a hazardous environment where safe working procedures were of paramount importance.
- Experience of working on a shift rota.
