Organizational Context and Job Purpose

The Olefins & Polymers USA division of INEOS is one of the largest producers of olefins and polyolefins in North America. From its manufacturing locations at Chocolate Bayou and the Battleground Manufacturing Complex, it is a merchant marketer of butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene and high-density polyethylene with annual revenue of over $4b.

The Chocolate Bayou Site is located in Southeastern Texas about 40 miles South of Houston and consists of two Olefins units that produce approximately 4bn pounds/year of ethylene, 2 Polypropylene units that produce approximately 1.0bn pounds/ year of polypropylene, and the Light Ends storage & transfer facilities at Stratton Ridge.

The Shift Clerk position works as a key member of the Operations Shift Team. Incumbents must have a strong willingness to learn, possess a great attitude, be a team player, and have the ability to multi-task and work independently.  A great degree of personal initiative, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize is required. This role works closely with all levels of personnel at the site. Attention to detail coupled with excellent communication skills are essential in this role.

The Shift Clerk position reports to the Shift Superintendents who report to the Site Director.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

This position is responsible for all activities involved in creating, publishing and updating the Operations Schedule for all process areas:

  • Prepare weekly operations manpower schedule, using unit requirements, overtime records, vacation records, medical restrictions, training schedules, etc.

  • Maintain overtime records, vacation schedules, job qualifications, ERT database

  • Handle callouts for unscheduled vacancies

  • Maintaining the SchedulePro Schedules for Operations Work scheduling and ERT Coverage.

  • Monthly overtime summary by unit.

  • Weekly ERT Roster, to meet minimum ERT staffing requirements.

  • Scheduling of Training & Meetings – Annual Safety Training, etc.

  • Maintain Operations Web Page.

  • Assist in procedure changes such as vacation, overtime policies.

  • Audit, update and submit SchedulePro timesheet information at the end of each two-week period on-time for payroll processing deadline information

The Shift Clerk schedule follows the Dupont shifts working 12-hour days on the assigned shift.  The position is required to work weekends and holidays per schedule, and as needed, to support other planned and/or unplanned/critical events (e.g., plant upsets, emergencies). 

Overtime is a requirement in this position.  The Shift Clerk will cover vacancies for other Shift Clerks as needed during scheduled / unscheduled absences (e.g., vacation, illness), sometimes with short notice to cover.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Educational Background

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent GED.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of two years plant clerical or similar administrative experience is required.

  • Additional experience involving personnel scheduling is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent keyboard skills
