Settlements Analyst (Apprenticeship)

INEOS Energy Trading is the face to market for optimising and marketing our equity positions and commodity trading activities.   

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail orientated Settlements Analyst to join our dynamic team in London. You will gain hands-on experience in settlement operations, working closely with the senior analyst and other departments to ensure accurate and efficient processing of trades, payments and accounting functions.  The role provides exposure to the settlement process for an energy commodity transaction including oil, gas and LNG and covers supports our global trading business.  [During your apprenticeship, you will also be studying towards a relevant qualification, providing you with the skills and knowledge required to pursue a long-term career within trading]. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Trade Settlements:

  • Support the settlements team in processing commodity trades, ensuring that transactions are settled accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Verify trade details such as quantity, price, delivery terms, and settlement dates against trade confirmations, contracts, and market data.
  • Ensure that payments and receipts related to trades are processed and matched correctly, liaising with counterparties, banks, and internal teams.

Reconciliation and Reporting:

  • Assist in reconciling daily, weekly, and monthly settlement positions and ensuring that all discrepancies are identified and resolved.
  • Help maintain accurate records of all settlement-related transactions, and support the preparation of settlement reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the accurate reporting of trading activity and settlement status for all relevant commodity products.

Counterparty and Payment Processing:

  • Communicate with counterparties to confirm and verify settlement details, ensuring that payments are processed accurately.
  • Assist in monitoring payment schedules, ensuring that any late or missed payments are promptly flagged and escalated.

Documentation Management:

  • Support the storage and organisation of settlement-related documentation, including contracts, invoices, and payment receipts.
  • Help with the creation and maintenance of settlement records for audits and regulatory compliance purposes.

Coordination with Other Teams:

  • Collaborate with the trading desk, finance, risk, and operations teams to ensure that settlements are aligned with trade terms and business requirements.
  • Assist in managing post-trade processes, including invoice generation, commodity delivery schedules, and operational support.

Learning and Development:

  • Actively participate in internal training programs and support the development of knowledge and skills relevant to commodity trading settlements.
  • Study towards a recognized qualification (e.g., AAT, CIMA, or other relevant certifications) to support career progression in the industry.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.  
  • An A-level or equivalent qualification in a business, finance, or related field is a plus but not mandatory.
  • No prior experience required – an interest in finance, commodities, or trade settlements is essential.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
