Organizational context and job purpose

INEOS Olefins and Polymers USA is one of the largest integrated producers of olefins and polyolefins in North America.  From its primary manufacturing locations at Chocolate Bayou, near Alvin, Texas, and Battleground Manufacturing Complex in LaPorte, Texas, with significant operations at multiple sites in the US for WL Plastics as well as smaller operations at Cedar Bayou and near Hobbs New Mexico.  O&P USA produces and/or markets of butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene, and high-density polyethylene, NGL feedstocks and PE Plastic pipes with annual revenue of over $6 billion.

How the Role Fits In:

This role, as a member of the Chocolate Bayou Site Finance team, will provide key business analysis to drive the daily operational tactics and decisions and to support the long term strategy development for INEOS Olefins and Polymers USA.

The Main Purpose of the Role: 

The Senior Financial Analyst position is responsible for the financial capital processes and reporting for the entire Olefins and Polymers USA business. This position is very hands on. This role requires the ability to communicate with employees of all levels and different functional disciplines.  A flexible work schedule is required to meet monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial book close deadlines.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Maintain guidelines and templates for economic modelling and train project engineers as needed.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in project economics for the CBW Site for small size Capex Projects.
  • Run Financial Models as needed (NPV, IRR, Lease vs. Buy, etc) for small size Capex Projects.
  • Maintain charge out process through CATs in SAP for all sites. This includes reporting, updating of activity codes, and charge out rates in SAP.
  • Monthly upload of cost and inactivity data for all open capital projects & report out to the finance, capital, and engineering teams.
  • Monthly consolidation of project actuals, forecast, and capitalizations into a summary report with data, tables, and charts for management review.
  • Work with Engineers to ensure quality data uploads for accurate and timely reporting.
  • Effectively use reporting tools to ensure timely closing of capital projects, which requires significant coordination with Engineering, Project reps, Finance, Procurement, and management to prevent depreciation issues.
  • Establish direct working relationship with project engineers and IT to develop methods to accurately set up and maintain projects in SAP that are easily trackable, configuring reports that meet user expectations & needs.
  • Work directly with other business unit personnel as projects demand; communicate SAP knowledge that impacts project structures, internal orders, and settlement rules.
  • Identify and solve SAP project and capex issues, and share insights across the organization.
  • Update Capex GFO with actuals & forecasting; communicate inputs for Strategy & Plan to finance, operations, and capital teams.
  • Provide Quarterly, Annual, & interim Capex capitalization & depreciation estimates to the Tax Department.
  • Confirm that all capex projects incorporate relevant financial considerations, such as sales and use tax, property tax, insurance, etc.
  • Develop Financial Structures and Processes for the eventual operation of new assets, such as (but not limited to):
    • All applicable FI/CO Master Data (Activity Types, Workorders, Assets, etc.)
    • Product Line Allocations
    • Initial Budgets for Fixed, Variable, and Capex
    • Intercompany Invoicing
    • Utilities Allocations
    • Capex Recovery
  • Own capital procedures and policies, enact and communicate those across the various sites for consistent accounting treatment and understanding.
  • Provide training, both 1-on-1 and in a group setting, on various Capital project topics to increase the organizational knowledge base and effectiveness.
  • Monitor Capital project spend and communicate issues or potential issues to finance and capex management as needed.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Capital and SAP related items, including reporting policies.
  • Process improvements to overall Fixed Assets management.
  • Understand the cost allocation process within SAP as it relates to both internal reporting and product line reporting.
  • Work closely with the other members of the Finance & Accounting team.
  • Support management interpretation of financial transactions, events, and INEOS policies for users who must make economic or business decisions.
  • Assist with external and internal Auditors, Federal and State Government Reporting, Governmental taxing authorities as required.
  • Provide oversight and support to the business unit delegation of authority.
  • Lead special projects as required, as directed by management.
  • Backup for other members of the Site Finance Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

Level of education & Experience in general

  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance with 5+ year relevant experience required. 
  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance will be strongly considered as positives.
  • Preference given to candidates with financial experience in a manufacturing environment and capital processes.

Skills and Competencies

Technical skills

  • Well-developed skills in financial modeling, economic evaluation, and development of business cases (NPV, IRR, DCF analysis and presentation).
  • Advanced Microsoft Skills, primarily Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; (Power BI knowledge is a plus).
  • Works with very strong analytical and superior problem solving & diagnosing skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial internal control processes.
  • SAP FI/PM/PS/MM module knowledge. (knowledge of other modules also a plus)
