Organizational Context and job purpose
How the Role Fits In:
The Safety/Industrial Hygiene Team Leader achieves positive results through emphasis on effective SHE processes and stewardship, day-to-day decision-making and problem solving, resource management, and teamwork. This position plays a key role in creating and implementing long and short-range departmental strategies for the CBW facility and is responsible for developing and promoting a healthy and safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors, and for ensuring the site achieves and maintains compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Local, and company SHE standards and regulations. Site employees must perceive position as a visible and active leader.
This position – and all positions - within the INEOS Olefins and Polymers organization requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following and practicing INEOS 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position. These are posted within each INEOS Olefins and Polymers facility.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Safety/IH Team Leader will supervise a team of safety and IH professionals. The team will support all areas of the site. The Safety/IH Team Leader will individually contribute to the success of the organization by supporting an assigned area.
This position will be a working team leader and will have to cover a section of the plant.
Accountability 1:
Accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles. Additionally, the team leader has a special responsibility to cascade the understanding of these principles through their teams.
- Site Champion the 20 Principles and Life Saving Rules
- Create/support a culture where people intervene to stop unsafe work
- Ensures rules and procedures are observed and followed
- Routinely interact with employees and contractors on Behavioral and Process Safety Principles concerns and issues
Accountability 2:
Responsible for developing and maintaining a SHE “management system” that will meld legislative, company, and site-specific regulations and philosophies and ensure continuous improvement of programs and results.
- Ensure compliance with existing SHE permits, including data collection and analysis, auditing, annual reporting, and trouble-shooting for improvements.
- Support overall business goals with minimal direction from management.
- Monitor developing regulations to identify those that affect the CBW, and take action to bring the site into compliance with these regulations.
- Identify and pursue new process improvement tactics and tools that will drive performance and continuous improvement.
- Provide primary technical expertise for SHE systems and programs.
Accountability 3:
Establish Safety and IH performance expectations and requirements, required tactics and plans to drive and monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop a multi-year departmental improvement plan and assist in the development of the site’s SHE improvement plan
- Cost center custodian, responsible for departmental spending and identifying cost saving initiatives
- Establish key SHE performance indicators and targets for CBW and report end month statistics to the SHE Manager.
- Establish tactics and tools that will engage all levels of the workforce in desired behaviors and activities that will derive desired performance results.
- Monitor SHE performance data and trends, audit to ensure compliance and suggest tactics to improve performance.
- Challenge status quo and constantly look for ways to improve systems and performance
Accountability 4:
Establishes a strong customer focus to ensure compliance with SHE policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement SHE strategies that balance regulations and business needs while ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Foster SHE awareness among employees and contractors.
- Liaise, cultivate, and develop solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators and community industrial associations to represent the company’s interest as appropriate.
- Include fellow work group members, employees across the organization, and occasionally external customers in the decision-making process as warranted to obtain good information, make the most appropriate decisions, and ensure buy-in and understanding of the resulting decisions.
- Leverage talents and expertise of department to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment.
- Champion corrective actions and improvement initiatives
Skills & Knowledge Required
Level of education & Experience
- 10 years of experience in the Safety and Health
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering preferred
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
Technical skills
