JOB TITLE: SAFETY SPECIALIST I
Location: Green Lake Facility, Port Lavaca, TX
JOB PURPOSE
The Safety Specialist is responsible for delivering safety, heath, and emergency performance excellence.
The Safey Specialist role will drive culture, procedure/process, and system changes at the Green Lake site to improve safety culture and systems. This role will have a detailed understanding of both the site’s safety programs and INEOS Group Guidance Notes (IGGNs) to help drive improvements in safety performance while optimizing resources.
This position will be used as a subject matter expert for the Green Lake’s SHE Policy and safety management system. This position will be used to clarify SHE policies during normal plant operation, maintenance events/turnarounds, and capital improvement projects.
This position will entail extensive field presence with INEOS and contract personnel and will be influencing site workers during critical operational jobs to keep people safe.
Also, this role will have important responsibilities in maintaining emergency capabilities (firefighting/emergency services systems) to mitigate consequences of process safety and personal safety incidents.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Accountable for understanding, promoting and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.
- Adheres to and complies with INEOS Global Life Saving Rules

The candidate will need to have a detailed understanding of both the site’s safety programs and INEOS Group Guidance Notes (IGGNs) to help drive improvements in safety performance while optimizing resources.

- Create and revise plant safety policies, standards, rules, and procedures as required
- Lead the development of plans, programs, and procedures to promote a culture of zero injuries and no harm to people.
- Participate in safety incident investigations and root cause analyses, as assigned.
- Generates internal and external periodic key safety information including trend analysis to facilitate attainment of performance indicators and initiative.
- Conduct New Employee Orientation and refresher training in various safety topics as needed.
- Audit Life-Critical Procedures and INEOS Group Guidance Notes (IGGN).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- HS Diploma
- (NCCER) National Center for Construction Education and Research safety certifications which may include Construction Site Safety Supervisor, Field Safety, Safety Technology.
- Certificate of Air Monitoring Equipment.
- (TDI)Texas Department of Insurance Portable Fire Extinguisher License
- Safety training including Confined Spaces, Electrical Safety, Working from Elevations, Heavy Equipment, Material Handling, Hazard Recognition, Job Safety Analysis, Incident Investigations
- 5 years of chemical plant experience.
- 5 years of experience in Emergency Services such as firefighting equipment and emergency medical services.
- 5 years of experience in air monitoring equipment used to assess workplace chemical concentrations and other conditions.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrates strong commitment to SHE excellence and a passion for occupational safety as well as Industrial Hygiene
- Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to communicate a clear vision for site safety excellence.
- High knowledge level of Green Lake safety policy and procedures.
- High knowledge level of firefighting equipment, emergency medical equipment, and air monitoring equipment
- Leads by example in the role of Safety Champion.
- Is a self-starter.
- Good interpersonal skills required to influence the organization.
- Interacts well with all levels of the organization.
- Promoter of a safe and healthy work environment by maintaining a strong relationship with employees and encourage a positive attitude about personnel safety.
- Other duties as assigned by the SHE Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to climb fixed ladder cages at heights of 30 ft. at a time. Total of 200 ft. (employee may need ladders as means of egress during emergency).
- Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs.
- Ability to lift 50 lb.
- Ability to wear required PPE: Hardhat, safety glasses, chemical goggles, face shield, rigid safety shoes/boots, full/half face cartridge masks.
- Ability to work length of time outdoors/ inclement weather.
- Job specific: Climbing, balance, bend/stoop, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying.
- Need to understand of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
