JOB PURPOSE

The Mechanical Equipment Engineer plans for and directs the reliability-centered maintenance program for the rotating equipment at the site. Initiates and leads activities to improve overall plant reliability and rotating equipment reliability. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Adhere to and support the INEOS 20 Principles and INEOS Life Saving Rules.  All job activities should be executed in a safe and efficient manner consistent with the INEOS 20 Principles and the Culture of Prevention.
  • Integrity management of assigned equipment.
  • Maintaining assigned critical assets
  • Implements reliability-centered maintenance program for plant rotating equipment.  Responsible for collecting, maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing data of plant equipment performance.
  • Implements plans to improve rotating equipment and plant performance.
  • Composes detailed work scopes and bid packages to be used for major overhauls and revamps.
  • Visit vendor shops to inspect equipment being repaired or purchased to ensure compliance with specifications and agreed procedures and schedules.
  • Inspects proposed vendor shops to review working conditions and quality control procedures.  This information is used to produce approved vendor lists for rotating equipment.
  • Sets standards and requirements for contract maintenance personnel and manufacturing representatives in the repair, monitoring, and installation of all rotating equipment in the plant.
  • Purchases and maintains specialized test equipment for condition monitoring program.  Trains and directs personnel as necessary to use the test equipment.  Analyze condition data to predict equipment life and recommend optimum repair intervals.
  • Maintains property records file on all rotating equipment, including vendor information, specifications, and regulatory codes.  Provides interpretation of codes practices for purchases of process equipment.
  • Prepares and approves engineering design for new installations, alterations, refurbishments, or replacements of equipment.  Considers maintenance costs impact of design recommendations.  Design work will include process and mechanical calculations, cost estimating for labor and material, time scheduling, preparation of detailed specifications and of material, and financial justifications.
  • Advises and assists in planning and preparations for turnarounds.  Key responsibility to prepare detailed scopes of work for major equipment overhauls and inspections.  Coordinates other turnaround activities as assigned.
  • Rotates duty as weekend/night plant reliability representative.
  • Assists in training and implementing of routine maintenance planning as required.
  • Participate in audits and interviews.
  • Reports all incidents and completes incident report.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in petro-chemical, refining or manufacturing.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Strong mechanical engineering skills with knowledge of reliability methodology. 

A broad understanding of reliability tools such as vibration monitoring, oil analysis, Infrared Thermography for rotating equipment is also preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to climb fixed ladder cages at heights of 30 ft. at a time. Total of 200 ft. (Employee may need ladders as means of egress during emergency).
  • Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs.
  • Ability to enter enclosed spaces through 18” man-way for cleaning and inspection purposes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lb.
  • Ability to wear required PPE: Hardhat, safety glasses, chemical goggles, face shield, rigid safety shoes/boots, full/half face cartridge masks.
  • Ability to work length of time outdoors/ inclement weather.
  • Job specific: Climbing, balance, bend/stoop, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying.
  • Need to evaluate understanding of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
