The Position: 

The Reliability Engineer serves the Bayport Complex ASA Unit as the lead for strategic reliability programs such as bad actors, criticality, and root-cause analysis.  This position interacts directly with the maintenance engineers, project engineers, and process engineers to develop a bad actor list, bring long-term issues to resolution, and improve overall reliability while reducing operating costs.

What you will do: 

This position – and all positions - within the INEOS Styrolution organization requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following and practicing INEOS 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position. These are posted within each INEOS Styrolution facility.  Each employee must also commit to following INEOS’ Life-Saving rules on a daily basis. Serving as an asset engineer and a champion of the 20 Principles and Life Saving Rules

  • Maintaining integrity responsibility for the critical assets and protective systems.
  • Working with maintenance supervisors to develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs on existing equipment (fixed equipment, pumps, safety devices, etc.) based on manufacture’s recommendation or best engineering practices
  • Leading or participating as needed in Process Hazard Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), or other risk assessments
  • Writing and supporting the Management of Change process through PHA and PSSR Evaluations
  • Leading/participating in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
  • Facilitates formal root-cause investigations and assists in development of corrective actions
  • Leads the first stage investigation for reliability and capital projects and works with the technical engineering department to bring these projects to completion. 
  • Researches information and recommends preventative maintenance techniques process equipment, including: calculation of torqueing specifications for unit manways, examination and change out of lube oil for vent gas compressors, and overhaul schedules for utilities air compressors
  •  Refines preventative maintenance detailed scope of work, data to be collected, and analysis frequency based on findings
  • Develops Bad Actor list and corrective actions for resolution
  • Maintains the master equipment criticality list
  • Reviews high critical equipment maintenance strategies and works with other department resources to ensure strategy incorporates optimal Preventative Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), Spare-Parts, and training considerations
  • Serves as a technical resource for maintenance technicians for consultation on troubleshooting of unit problems.
  • Responsible for implementing identified corrective actions resulting from incident investigations or HAZOP
  • Assists in the procuring of materials and the scheduling of work
  • Provides estimates and work packages for major expense repair work.  Serves as lead technical person for execution of work and has accountability for the cost and schedule execution of the work.
  • Develops and revises procedures & standard work forms for routine maintenance activities
  • Ensures proper repair techniques are used but also has a large amount of interaction with the other aspects of performing maintenance including the preparation and return to service steps for equipment.
  • Monitors and ensures preventative maintenance necessary to maintain equipment reliability and for analyzing failures if equipment, determining root causes, and implementing corrective action.
  • Maintains relationships with all key suppliers of parts and services. Particular challenges are present with the outside rotating equipment shops that provide overhaul and seal repair services as they are a significant portion of the annual maintenance budget.
  • Assists the technical engineering department with economic justification for reliability projects.

What you will bring: 

  • Level of education & knowledge: 
  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred) and a minimum of 10 years related experience OR an advanced engineering degree with a minimum of 6 years of related experience

  • Knowledge of the INEOS product line and customers is a plus.
