The Position: 

The purpose of this position is to manage the safe and reliable operations of the lab technicians and equipment to ensure Styrene Monomer (SM) product is shipped with the correct analysis to meet ISO quality requirements and customer specifications. This position is responsible for facilitating continuous improvement through the Quality process. The Quality Lab Supervisor plans and organizes day-to-day testing to provide quality assurance information that contributes to INEOS Styrolution’s success and profitability; establishes productive internal and external relationships, leads ISO certification/audit efforts and provides satisfactory service to customer organizations.

What You Will Do: 

  • Ensure the INEOS 20 Principles of Behavioral and Process Safety are learned, followed, practiced, and supported on a daily basis. Communicate and champion the INEOS 20 Principles and Life Saving Rules to empower and enable others.
  • Ensure the lab is staffed 24 hours including scheduling coverage for vacations and other absences.
  • Supervise lab technicians to ensure routine quality analytical data on styrene raw materials, intermediate, waste and finished products is provided to production, utilities, environmental and logistics departments.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment. 
  • Ensure reliability of the laboratory equipment, overseeing PdM, PM, CM, and CAPEX project to replace obsolete technology. 
  • Ensure performance of all laboratory testing methods as per ASTM D2827 specs and testing methods required for this standard, e.g.SM Purity D5135 or D7504, etc. 
  • Provides daily work instructions to lab technicians to ensure all routine and non-routine testing is completed as per sample schedule. 
  • Develops new methods and procedures to train laboratory personnel in new or modified lab processes and computer systems.
  • Provide and/or oversees the lab technicians training, qualification, re-certification on testing methods. 
  • Provide analytical data for any special tests and analysis for troubleshooting and design changes to assist with production improvements using analytical data.
  • Collaborates with environmental group in protecting the environment to comply with state local and federal regulations by providing analytical data on plant emissions and discharges
  • Maintain the effectiveness of the laboratory to provide quality assurance information as requested by providing training for the technicians leading to certification
  • Provide and ensure maintenance of laboratory equipment, methodology, test chemicals and reagent required for routine and special tests to maintain the lab’s ability to conduct such tests by working with the purchasing department in selecting lab equipment and vendors 
  • Secure the safety and health of all employees in the lab to avoid injuries using the Responsible Care department safety programs.
  • Secure the records of all analytical work for future references using established standards and procedures.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory changes and developments affecting the analytical methods.
  • Provide recognition, coaching and counselling to insure performance development.

Quality Management System: 

  • Ensures the Quality Management System is compliant with ISO 9001 standard, which required to lead mandatory ISO 9001 requirements: Management Review, Internal Audit Process, Non-conforming Products Management, Document Control, customer requirements, etc. 
  • Ensures compliance pf the ISO 14001 standard into integrated management system ISO 9001- ISO 14001.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Logistics and Sales to address customer needs and quality issues. 
  • Schedules and tracks ISO audits both internally and externally
  • Recruits and trains internal ISO auditors in ISO standards and audit practices
  • Facilitate ISO certification and track ISO audit findings, reports findings to the leadership team, and holds quarterly quality meetings
  • Manages the SM Non-Conformity system for BPT and TXC, performing as lead investigator. 
  • Represent INEOS Styrolution at American Society for Testing and Materials and American Society for Quality Control functions


What You Will Bring: 

  • A minimum of a B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related field 
  • At least seven years of experience in laboratory and ISO areas 
  • Experience supervising laboratory operations; possess excellent organizational and scheduling skills to manage daily work and training schedules of lab technicians 
  • Working knowledge of ISO standards 
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills to interact successfully with operations, customers, vendors, and logistics 

Technical Skills:

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft and Adobe software and ability to develop competency in the use of ancillary software applications used by the Gulf Coast Region 
  • Interpret and analyze data generated in the lab  
  • Wear and fit emergency breathing devices (air masks, tanks, respirators, etc.) 
  • View colors of flames, liquids and solids from analysis 
  • Smell odor to determine different gases or reactions
  • Hear warning signals or emergency alarms
