Main Purpose
The Quality Manger will lead and develop the Laboratory to achieve a high level of laboratory performance to support Production by providing accurate and timely analytical results, directing an effective preventive maintenance program, Quality Control program and by leading equipment troubleshooting and repair efforts. The position is the frontline supervisor for hourly Quality Control Technicians and has responsibility for all routine laboratory operations including safety and environmental compliance. The role is also responsible for the maintenance of the Joliet sites ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Development of daily operating plans for the laboratory and direct the efforts of the day and night shifts
- Leader of safety culture and performance for the Quality Control Team.
- Leader of environmental performance for the Quality Control Team.
- Oversight of lab NPDES requirements and analytical data.
- Development of the shift coverage and vacation schedules for the hourly staff.
- Drive performance Development for the hourly staff, which will include training and performance review.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget for the laboratory.
- Serve as owner of the lab building and infrastructure.
- Develop relationships with other INEOS labs and with third party labs to access broader capabilities.
- Lead technical support for non-routine analytical needs.
- Improve laboratory capabilities by identifying long-term analytical needs.
- Establish the risk profile and contingency plans for critical analytical equipment.
- Direct the ordering and receipt of laboratory supplies.
- Direct development and maintenance of all lab procedures and practices.
- Development of lab samples schedules that align plant requirements and lab resources
- Own the LIMS data system and all analytical recordkeeping.
- SME for SAP quality manager role including product specifications and customer COA profiles
- Custodian and maintenance of the documented final product shipping specifications
- Support commercial group customer quality and information requests.
- Scheduling and facilitating ISO 9001 internal audits and Registrar Audits
- Scheduling and facilitating ISO 14001 internal audits and Registrar Audits
Principal Accountabilities
- Must take an active individual and team approach to safety, health and the environment and to understand and follow company Safety, health, and environmental requirements applicable with all work activities.
- Accountable to ensure all routine laboratory data is reliable, accurate and compliant.
- Authorized to make the final determination on the conformance of shipping lots with regard to the documented shipping specifications.
- Accountable for the Management of the hourly laboratory staff.
- Accountable for the Maintenance of the laboratory infrastructure and all laboratory instrumentation.
- Accountable to Ensure all MI compliance program tasks within the LAB (AAMS) are identified, planned, and prioritized for completion prior to their compliance due dates or to obtain approved deferrals for program tasks that cannot be completed by the due date.
- Accountable for the retention of the quality and environmental certifications (ISO9001 and ISO14001)
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- HS Diploma or equivalent; Technical Degree &/or certificate preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and CMMS software
- Knowledgeable of petrochemical industry best practices for a PSM facility
- Strong interpersonal skills and good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Self-motivated, and enjoy working in a team environment
- Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to safety
Skills/Competencies
- Knowledge of Joliet Production processes with regard to process samples and their analytical relationship.
- Strong analytical knowledge with a focus on key Joliet analytical techniques: ICP, GC, HPLC, Titration and wet chemistry.
- Ability to develop and write laboratory analytical methods and procedures.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of general laboratory best practices including laboratory safety.
- Self-directed with the ability to prioritize and take action to address laboratory risks and opportunities.
- Strong computer skills with ability to learn, utilize and train other on multiple analytical software programs
- Strong communication skills. Able to clearly communicate verbal and written expectations and requirements to the laboratory staff.
- Knowledge and understanding of the ISO 9001 and 14001 international standards.
- General knowledge of the key Joliet site processes and management systems that demonstrate compliance with the ISO standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced 24/7 environment
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the individual will perform primarily office tasks requiring repetitive use of hands; however, may be required to enter production areas to understand and scope project needs. Minimum requirements include:
- Maintaining constant awareness of personal safety and the safety of all other personnel. This includes knowledge of INEOS 20 Safety Principles and other safety procedures and rules.
- Being able to pick up a 25lb object such as a fire extinguisher or a large book/binder.
- Being able to work at a desk and operate routine items such as a computer and calculator; close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound.
- Able and willing to meet with stakeholders or vendors within the facility including providing tours.
- Being able to wear the appropriate PPE when inside the facility.
