Project Engineer

Location

The Position: The Project Engineer provides leadership and accountability on capital and expense projects, ensuring full compliance to Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.  Designs, documents and implements projects to improve safety and environmental performance, product quality and reliability, increase capacity, reduce cost, and optimize the overall plant performance.  


What you will do: 

  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis/LOPA, and Management of Change.
  • Adheres to site engineering standards and good engineering practice.
  • Coordinate and manage all phases of capital projects utilizing project development and implementation processes.  This includes formally presenting project proposals to Styrolution leadership for larger capital projects.
  • Responsible to ensure all aspect of cost control and planning for each project is within scope, budget and established time line.
  • Prepare engineering and/or contractor bid packages.
  • Ensure all project documentation, equipment files, loop drawings are properly prepared and/or updated to the project folder and displayed on site documentation.
  • Provide construction supervision as required throughout project implementation ensuring that safety is the top priority.
  • Provides engineering technical support for process equipment repairs, maintenance troubleshooting and participate in root cause failure analysis when needed or required. 


What you will bring: 

  • Level of education & knowledge: 
    • Requires a BS in engineering with at least 2 years of Project management, capital investments, and chemical manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in general: 
    • Experience should be in a chemical/petrochemical operating plant and should include:
      • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation,
      • Demonstrated proficiency in formal problem solving techniques,
      • Experience managing large complex capital projects ($1-5M) while keeping budget, scope and implementation under control.
         
  • Technical skills: 
    • Strong communication skills needed.  Implementation of objectives and responsibilities will require influencing employees in other departments at all levels.
    • Working knowledge of engineering and manufacturing related requirements/policies.
    • Ability to use Microsoft software. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Project, etc.)
    • Strong SAP skills in the area of capital work a plus.

  • Physical demands: 
    • Continuous use of memory, understanding and the ability to make decisions.
    • Frequent social interaction, directing others, adapting to change, walking, lifting up to 10lbs, travel, climbing, twisting/turning, simple grasping with both hands and exposure to dust/gas fumes, chemicals/solvents and high noise levels.
    • Occasional sitting, standing, viewing computer monitors, sustained concentration/persistence, working alone, working in confined spaces, lifting and carrying up to 20lbs, push/pulling, stooping/crouching, kneeling, crawling, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, firm and fine grasping/manipulation of both hands, operating machinery, wearing occlusive clothing/respirator equipment/hard hat/safety glasses and hearing protection and exposure to temperature extremes, allergic agents, enclosed spaces, wet conditions, reduced light levels and electrical sources.
