Production Leader

Main Purpose

The Production Leader is to achieve EH&S performance and production goals through mentorship of the production technicians and development of the daily plan.  This role owns the assigned process area to ensure smooth operation through equipment condition monitoring and operator personal performance.  This role also has direct responsibility for operator development including feedback on performance to maximize the capability of the operating team.  This role requires general knowledge but not limited to the following technical areas: electrical, instrumentation, motors, rotating equipment, fixed equipment and civil. The Production Leader reports to the unit Asset Manager and is an active member of the Production Asset Team (PAT).

RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong EH&S culture within the unit using the INEOS 20 Safety Principles. Ensure safety, health and environmental systems are in place, complied with, and improvements adopted so personal and process safety is delivered while maintaining the asset to deliver business objectives.
  • Own the assigned Process Area by understanding the process limits, constraints and appropriate responses for upsets and emergencies. Understand risk, probability, and consequence to drive urgency of response and proactive incident elimination
  • Be an active leader within the PAT by leading the daily meeting to align team members to the shift objectives, top risks and opportunities in the units. Own the relationship between operators and the PAT and work collaboratively with the PAT to resolve issues.
  • Review and update UOD for the unit daily to ensure safety and environmental priorities are identified along with business needs. Monitor unit KPIs and production targets and work with the team to remove barriers to success and work with Asset Coordinators to update operational tasks.
  • Anticipate and meet unit personnel support requirements to ensure the site objectives are met every set.
  • Own the readiness of asset equipment for maintenance and be a gatekeeper of Workflow Process. Support work scope development by assisting Equipment Asset Coordinator with walk downs of specific jobs to ensure accurate scope definition.  Set plans to ensure work execution can be conducted for the next shift and next day to remove barriers to daily work execution if possible.
  • Work with operators to provide high quality unit rounds, Routine Duty task completion, procedure adherence, and shift turnover. Monitor these and provide feedback to team to improve performance and quality. 
  • Develop the Production team by providing mentorship and feedback on performance. Ensure all operators understand their responsibilities in the unit and facility and how they are performance against expectations.  Own the training program and ensure compliance with management systems. 
  • Provides and coordinate off hours site support as required.
  • Ensure equipment and grounds in the process area along with the surrounding work areas meet the expectations of the INEOS AsCare program and perform routine audits of the area.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Must take a personal and active approach to health, safety and environment and understand and follow all provincial and company health, safety and environmental requirements applicable to the work area and tasks assigned
  • Must embrace and promote the observance of INEOS 20 Safety Principles (Behavioral and Process Safety) and INEOS Life Saving Rules with employees and contractors.
  • Responsible to intervene and engage others to consistently observe 20 Safety Principles and Life Savings Rules and timely report when deviations from them occur.
  • Must Lead the Production Team to achieve EH&S performance and production goals by developing the plan to be executed each shift and day.
  • Owns the assigned process area to ensure operations runs smoothly with respect to equipment condition and operator performance.
  • Responsible for Personnel Development, including providing continuous feedback on employee’s performance to ensure expectations are understood and met
  • Leadership, including workforce engagement, diversity, employee mentorship and training.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Technical Degree or certificate preferred).
  • 5+ Years operations or technical experience (internships included) within the Joliet Facility. Previous supervisor experience a plus

Skills/Competencies

  • Supervisor experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Proactive problem solver.
  • Experience in a Petro-chemical manufacturing environment with specific experience in PSM regulated facilities.
  • Self-motivated and enjoy working in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
  • Ability to work a 12 hour (4) day shift block with occasional overtime (10-15%) and night shift coverage.
  • Intermediate computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must understand Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP).
  • Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to safety.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work around and on industrial equipment. including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, as well as perform office tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.  The employee must walk, stand and travel by car or other means and be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork.  Minimum requirements include:

  • Maintaining constant awareness of personal safety and the safety of all other personnel. This includes knowledge of INEOS 20 Safety Principles and other safety procedures and rules.
  • Being able to work in a safety sensitive environment that includes large rotating equipment and hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be able to withstand both winter and summer temperatures while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.

In addition, must be comfortable working in a loud environment that could include exposure to fumes / odors or vibration from surrounding equipment including the following:

  • Being able to ascend and descend a barrel ladder with continuous vertical length of up to 35 feet.
  • Being able to climb and descend stairs up to a total structure height of 80 feet.
  • Being physically able to wear and navigate through the unit with a respirator if needed.
  • Being able to pick up a 50 lb object such as a fire extinguisher or a large book/binder.
  • Being able to work at a desk and operate routine items such as a computer and calculator

This is an on-site position & is NOT remote or hybrid.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience in the role, industry experience, education, and other qualifications.
