Product Stewardship Scientist

INEOS is a major international chemical company. INEOS Pigments produces TiO2 and TiCI4 via the chloride process, with approximately 500 employees at the Ashtabula Complex. Technical Support is performed at both the Ashtabula Complex and the Research Center located in Baltimore. This role is a salaried, exempt position based in Ashtabula, OH. Work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with up to 30% travel.

This position is responsible for understanding ESG and Stewardship requirements, responding to customer inquiries and ensuring INEOS compliance in business and product development. It is critical that the role stays current with updates to global legislation and standards, such as REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, Conflict Minerals, TSCA, etc. The incumbent will manage and maintain the global Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and label system for all existing products including generation of SDSs and labels for new products to be developed. It will require high level understanding of the pigment business as well as current methods of pigment manufacture. The incumbent should possess critical analytical skills and be adept at decision-making using industry accepted tools coupled with a high level of data analysis skills to solve challenging customer problems. This position will coordinate project work with other T&I teams, Manufacturing teams, and Commercial teams to achieve corporate performance goals.

Key activities:

  • Identify and communicate impact of existing, new, and upcoming product stewardship and ESG regulations to the business. Monitor international, federal, or state regulations for changes impacting supply chain. Assess product and market risks and work with cross-functionally to minimize liability while maximizing Commercial opportunities.
  • Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Commercial, and Procurement functions to ensure product stewardship reviews are conducted for raw material and product introduction. Collaborate with R&D to introduce new and maintain existing products that are compliant with product stewardship regulations and company policies and standards.
  • Work cross-functionally to support assessments of business and operational risks as well as potential product stewardship and ESG impacts for sales & marketing activities. Help the Commercial team as needed to identify options for mitigating identified risks and opportunities as they related to product stewardship, compliance, and sustainability.
  • Prepare chemical notifications, product registrations, and address import/export requirements to support our global business. Support regulatory submissions to appropriate government agencies.
  • Respond to product regulatory compliance and ESG inquiries from internal and external customers including product uses, product approvals, ingredient disclosure, safety information, and registration/certification, and product regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare, track and issue documentation in response to customer regulatory requests including certifications, regulatory letters, technical packages, product regulatory disclosures, etc.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Manufacturing addressing product sustainability as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the design of and use of our products.
  • Supports activities related to lifecycle assessments and environmental product declarations.
  • Track record of building strong relationships with internal and external partners and key customers.
  • Champion and promote a strong safety culture ensuring adherence to the INEOS Pigments Safety and Behavioral Principles and Life Saving Rules
  • Participate in product development reviews.

Requirements:

  • B. S. degree in a scientific discipline (e. g. , Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Toxicology), other degrees may be considered if candidate has significant and relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years industrial experience with product stewardship, hazcom, chemical safety, or environmental regulatory preferred.

· Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, Powerpoint, SAP, Minitab

  • Proven presentational skills and competent public speaker.
  • Strong familiarity with GHS (e. g. , OSHA HAZCOM 2012)
  • Effective verbal communication skills with ability to effectively interact with regulators, technical consultants, trade association members, legal counsel, and INEOS commercial personnel.
  • Ability to demonstrate high attention to detail, take ownership and drive results required.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, independently handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously completing tasks efficiently, accurately, and on time.
  • Strong research and data-mining skills along and ability to analyze data to develop conclusions and recommendations; strong analytical and problem-solving skill.
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time.
  • Previous experience with executing projects.
