BUSINESS CONTEXT:

Ethylene oxide (EO) is an important building block for the preparation of a wide variety of EO derivatives (EODs), including various surfactants, as well as a host of other chemical intermediates including Glycol Ethers, Polyethlene Glycols, Ethanolamines, and Alkyl Alkanolamines. 

INEOS Oxide is one of the world’s leading producers of Ethylene Oxide (EO) and Ethylene Oxide Derivatives (EODs).  We currently have a total EO and EOD capacity of 920 kta spread across five different production units throughout Europe and the US. These units have leading cost economics, due to economies of scale, state-of-the-art technology, strategic locations, etc. Our EO project in the US is targeting the fast-growing merchant EO market, building on our experience and leadership position in Europe.

Purpose of the Job:

Operate field equipment, using the company discipline principles in the production units.  Monitor equipment as a preventative maintenance measure and maintaining a safe and environmentally sound environment.  Operate the process control boards in a safe and environmentally sound manner.  Maintain a continuous learning ambition to gain knowledge and skills to enable an operator to rotate in each job role in their area based on the outlined time frame in the training matrix.

This individual will address all immediate activities associated with producing chemicals in their qualified production units.  A successful candidate will begin on the job training and progress by qualifying on all outside jobs with the expectation to become a board technician.  These activities will be performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner and according to company policies and procedures.  The individual will work in a team environment and rotate through these job functions as his skill levels progress.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Accountability 1: 

SHE

Observe operating procedures and envelopes.  Deviations must be addressed, mitigated, and reported.

Always place the safe operation or shutdown of the asset ahead of production.

Always take the asset to its safest state when in doubt.

Work within the limit of competency and training.

All Process Operators

  • Properly handle product waste in all areas of responsibility based on established operating discipline
  • Maintain plant process knowledge through continuous training courses required by the company in order to maintain a high level of quality and process knowledge
  • Perform job tasks safely as outlined in the SOP.
  • Practice good housekeeping in all areas of responsibilities
  • Performs Job hazard evaluations for all tasks. 
  • Oversee permitting and execution of maintenance activities performed in their responsible area.
  • Provide support as needed to management and operations team to support needs of the plant
  • Responsible for complying with environmental and regulatory procedures to ensure that INEOS Oxide is regarded as a good neighbor.
  • Manages the safe operation of loading and offloading of Ethylene Oxide and raw materials as needed.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance work in a timely and safe manner.

Skills/Competencies

Level of Education & Experience in general

  • Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology degree & 2 years of experience of applicable Operator Technician experience in a batch or continuous chemical process facility
  • In lieu of Process Technology degree, High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of applicable Operator Technician experience in a batch or continuous chemical process facility.


Technical Skills

  • Prior batch or continuous chemical process plant experience

Outside

Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Ability to climb ladders and stairs.

  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions:  One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin:  fumes, Odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
  • The worker is required to wear a respirator.
  • The worker is required to don a gas mask.

Inside:

Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Subject to inside environmental conditions:  Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes

Employee must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens, and to adjust focus.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.   Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
