JOB PURPOSE: This position safely and effectively operates and controls equipment and instrumentation in the assigned manufacturing unit in normal and emergency situations. The incumbent receives and processes raw materials using chemical reactions and manufacturing operations to produce finished products at the specified quality level. The position may also operate plant utilities, and/or treat process waste streams, and is expected to perform minor maintenance in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and associated training. The incumbent understands and follows operating procedures to start-up, operate, and shutdown the process under both routine and emergency conditions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Shift Manager

JOB DIMENSIONS: This position does not have budgetary responsibility. It is a craft union position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Uphold INEOS AROMATICS commitment to health, safety, and security and support the site Local Operating Manage System (LOMS).
  • Understands how the work of Operations affects the environment, supports area to minimize impact on the environment, and supports the site and Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Compliance with and promotion of different behavioral and process safety initiatives and measures – supporting 20 INEOS SHE Principles, risk assessments and Life Saving Rules.
  •  Maintains and improves safety in the unit and is responsible for housekeeping in operating areas.
  • Maintains and monitors process equipment in accordance with established procedures and processes.
  •  Starts up, operates and shutdowns the process unit.
  •  Coordinates maintenance activities with Operations personnel.
  •  Makes necessary adjustments to equipment and process to ensure optimum operation of the unit.
  • Monitors the digital control system.
  • Responds to section and unit emergencies along with other shift team members.
  • Properly executes with operational rigor on a shift-by-shift basis which include:
  • Procedure execution and compliance
  • Control of Work activity and audit/verification
  • LOTO and Isolations activity
  • Operator Rounds quality
  • Shift Handover/E-Log quality
  • Performs rounds utilizing hand-held data tool
  • Works with Maintenance and other Operations personnel to troubleshoot and repair equipment and instrumentation.
  • Writes maintenance notifications for assigned operating area.
  • Supports emergency plant needs on shift.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the process, SOPs, training, and other aspects of the operation.
  • Provides support to Unit Engineering functions.
  • Identifies specific cost reduction opportunities.
  • Samples the process as needed.
  • Takes responsibility for decisions made in assigned section.
  • Inputs process data into systems as required.
  • Maintains the operation of operating areas within the boundaries of established Operating Envelopes, including making adjustments to the process as necessary.
  • Provides recommendations for updating the Operating Envelopes when opportunities or issues are seen.
  • Responds to deviations from the Operating Envelope with reasons and corrective actions taken.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Essential Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent –AND- 5+ years’ experience as an operator or tradesman in a petrochemical plant, refinery or construction industry.
  • OR

    2 year Associate’s degree in Process Technology

Essential experience and job requirements

  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts which will include weekends and holidays, and must be available for overtime, including short notice overtime (callouts).
  • Attain a passing score on pre-employment test which includes mechanical aptitude, reading, science, and mathematics concepts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrate a level of physical ability to handle the demands of the job with or without accommodation. This will include climbing stairs and ladders, carrying items that weigh 25 pounds or more, lifting items that weigh up to 50 pounds, standing or walking on your feet for an extended period of time, work outside in all weather, at all times of the day, any day of the week, ability to wear fresh air gear, and work in confined spaces .
