FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas transportation and processing system serving the central area of the North Sea.

The Aberdeen based FPS North team manage all operations associated with the Forties pipeline which runs from the central North Sea, via the Unity NPAI hub, down to Grangemouth.

Reporting to the FPS North Technical Safety and Facilities Engineer as part of the FPS North Organisation. The Process Engineer has no direct reports but will be expected to work closely with the wider Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams.

Job Purpose

Working as part of the FPS North Technical Team, provide Process Engineering support in compliance with Ineos FPS standards.

The Process Engineer’s principal purpose is to provide process engineering support to the Asset Operating team as required

The Process Engineer will also prepare study report to screen opportunities to improve SHE, availability, variable costs and fixed costs..

Principle Accountabilities

  • Identify opportunities to improve SHE, availability, variable cost and fixed cost.
  • Prepare detailed project study reports to ensure generation of accurate project proposals.
  • Support implementation of projects (capital and revenue) to improve SHE, availability/reliability and cost performance.
  • Provide Process Engineering input and approval for plant modifications to ensure delivery of fit for purpose and fully documented asset improvements (including all TAR modifications scope).
  • Provide Process Engineering discipline expertise in troubleshooting asset vulnerabilities to minimise impact upon the asset operating plan.
  • Liaise with Production Optimisation Team to co-ordinate new entrants and Waiver approvals.
  • Act as Process single point of accountability (SPA) for long-term Asset strategy.
  • Lead / contribute to safety reviews, risk assessments and investigations as the process engineering focal point.
  • Take part in HAZOP, LOPA and SIL studies.
  • Monitor safe operating limits/envelopes through periodic review of process operating data, investigate excursion and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist the Operations team with the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Act as custodian of key Process Engineering documents including Register of Safety Related Devices LO/LC Register, Safe Operating and Design Limits, P&IDs, Pipeline Surge Study, ensuring same are kept up to date.
  • Act as Single Point of Accountability (SPA) for Process led site activity.
  • Technical approval of process engineering content of Asset MOCs proposals.
  • Support the Process Engineering Technical Authority with the development and ongoing management of process engineering practices and procedures.
  • Coach/mentor interns and graduates to support professional development of individuals and increase asset/site/company competency levels.          

Job Requirements

  • Job holder will be part of the FPS Incident Management Team (formal rota).
  • Periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned outages.
  • Ability to travel offshore.

Qualifications, knowledge and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level or Equivalent in Chemical or Process Engineering

Minimum Experience:

  • Chartered engineer or equivalent.
  • Experience of Process Engineering in an on and off-shore Oil & Gas / Refining / Petrochemical environment.

Job Specific Skills:

  • Experienced in leading/conducting project studies for capital projects, plant modifications as well as plant and equipment rationalisation and decommissioning
  • Good understanding & awareness of on and offshore processes & working practices
  • Experienced with Risk Assessment and Management of Change processes
  • Strong IT skills to run required chemical engineering models and systems.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, instrument, electrical and control engineering.

Job Knowledge Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding and applied knowledge of relevant UK Regulatory (Safety Case, COMAH…) and industry standards.
