FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas transportation and processing system serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend crude oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth

Job Purpose

Reporting to the South Technical Manager, the post holder will work as part of the FPS South Technical Team to provide chemical engineering support to asset operations, delivering short to medium term asset strategy. The post holder will have line management responsibility for the team of process engineers supporting the South assets; Kinneil; LPG Export and Dalmeny Hound Point. The Plant Support Team will work closely with the asset engineering and operations teams to deliver safe, reliable and competitive operation of the asset. 

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide technical leadership and line management to the team of process engineers supporting the South Assets.
  • Strong, demonstrable SHE and process safety leadership within the both office and plant environments.
  • Perform role of asset MoC Authority delegate.
  • Complete technical investigation of plant safety system activations and operating envelope excursions.  
  • Monitor and optimise plant energy usage as part of sustainability agenda, including identification and action of energy reduction opportunities. 
  • Has overall responsibility for definition and regular review of plant operating envelopes. Develops and maintains tools for monitoring of safe operating envelopes.
  • Implement asset improvement modifications in role of reviewer or job responsible engineer.
  • Ensure that all asset process safety information is maintained.
  • Provide additional process engineering support to plant turn around activity and start-ups including pre-start up safety reviews.
  • Coaches/mentors less experienced engineers to ensure process safety and availability issues are addressed as part of design and operational processes.
  • Provides checking and oversight of technical calculations, reports and drawings produced by the plant support team.
  • Participates in HAZOP and LOPAs reviews as required, complete HAZOP and LOPA actions.
  • Has direct process engineering ownership of a south asset area, as required.

Job Requirements

  • Job holder expected to be part of the FPS Incident Management Team (formal rota).
  • Periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned outages.

Qualifications, knowledge and Skills

  • Chartered Chemical Engineer or working towards chartered status with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in oil and gas or chemical industry operations.  This experience should be wide ranging and cover some experience of projects, design and manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to create relationships with internal and external stakeholders and 3rd party specialists.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing Process Engineering support to either onshore or offshore operations.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management processes – knowledge of specific tools required and ability to interpret results.
  • Strong understanding of management of change processes.
  • Awareness of human factors influence on process safety.
  • Good understanding & awareness of on and offshore processes & working practices.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and process modelling software.
