Job Title
Paryroll and Benefits Systems Specialist
Location
Naperville, Illinois
The Position:
This role is responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll and benefits services in a complex manufacturing environment using Ceridian Dayforce (Payroll + Time & Attendance). This position is part of the Global HR Shared Services organization and is internally classified as an HR Shared Services Specialist. The incumbent owns payroll controls, system troubleshooting, and configuration to ensure correct calculations across site-specific pay policies and 150+ pay codes. Benefits administration is supported through direct vendor portal activity and produces payroll-based reporting for downstream benefits and compliance needs. This position is designed to build depth and capability as backup for broader U.S. payroll and Mexico support.
What you will do:
- Run bi-weekly hourly payroll for three Texas manufacturing sites (approx. 130–140 employees) with multiple site-specific pay policies, premiums, overtime, holiday rules, and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) considerations.
- Validate timecards and payroll results end-to-end in Dayforce Time & Attendance; investigate variances, exceptions, and incorrect calculations before payroll finalization.
- Troubleshoot payroll issues and perform system configuration updates (pay codes, qualifiers, policies, rules/logic) to correct root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Produce and maintain payroll reports and audit support documentation; partner with HR Shared Services and Benefits to ensure payroll-to-benefits alignment and compliance readiness.
- Perform benefits administration support activities, including manual updates in vendor portals (e.g., BCBS, Delta Dental, VSP, HealthEquity/COBRA) for new hires, life events, terminations, and coverage corrections.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with a high level of customer service—calmly explain outcomes in plain language, resolve issues, and follow through to closure.
- Cross-train to back up broader U.S. payroll processing (approx. 750 employees) and begin learning Mexico payroll processes to support continuity and coverage..
What you will bring:
Level of education & knowledge:
- 5+ years of payroll experience, ideally within a shared services or centralized payroll environment.
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred OR equivalent experience.
- Spanish/English bilingual capability preferred to support Mexico payroll coverage and cross-border partnership.
- Hands-on experience owning payroll in a system where calculations/configuration are managed in-house (not primarily outsourced to a vendor).
- Ceridian Dayforce Payroll and Time & Attendance experience strongly preferred; comparable enterprise systems (e.g., Workday Payroll/Time) considered with demonstrated configuration/troubleshooting depth.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot payroll configuration using logic-based thinking (e.g., “if/then” drivers), identify anomalies, and correct root causes.
- Working knowledge of wage & hour concepts, overtime rules, differentials, holiday pay, and union/CBA-driven pay practices.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation techniques) and comfort working with large datasets and audit trails.
- Proven customer service approach with ability to de-escalate concerns, explain payroll outcomes clearly, and build trust with hourly employee populations.
- Experience supporting benefits administration and working in benefits vendor portals is a strong plus.
- Strong process discipline and documentation habits; able to build and sustain controls in a lean environment.
Technical skills:
- Ceridian Dayforce: Payroll, Time & Attendance (core)
- SAP SuccessFactors: HRIS interface/employee data driver awareness (as it impacts downstream payroll processes)
- Benefits vendor portals (BCBS, Delta Dental, VSP, HealthEquity/COBRA)
- Excel and reporting tools; SharePoint for documentation/report distribution
Competencies, Behavioral skills:
- Intellectual curiosity and investigative mindset—sees something “off” and digs in until it’s understood and corrected.
- Analytical pattern recognition—able to anticipate payroll outcomes and spot errors before employees do.
- Strong ownership mentality—takes accountability from issue discovery to resolution and prevention.
- Collaborative and approachable—trusted partner for HR Shared Services, Benefits, supervisors, and hourly employees.
Compensation & Benefits:
INEOS Styrolution offers a competitive benefits package to support employees and their dependents, including:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Life and disability insurance.
- A 401(k)-retirement plan with a 3% automatic company contribution and a 100% match on the first 6% of employee contributions.
- Paid time off and additional wellness, financial, and lifestyle benefits.
- The annual base salary for this position typically ranges between $78,524 and $98,156.
- Additionally, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus as part of their total compensation package.
- The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.
