The Position: Operations Technician  - 

Safely operate the EBSM (Ethylbenzene/Styrene Monomer), OSBL, and utilities/off-sites sections of the Sarnia plant to produce finished product that meets internal manufacturing and customer specifications.

The successful candidate for this entry-level position will be required to work a 7-day, 12-hour rotating day/night shift schedule and participate as a member of a shift team. 

What you will do:  

•    Follow operating procedures and guidelines to operate the assigned area of the unit safely and efficiently, including the operation various process equipment, e.g. switches, pumps, compressors, turbines, control valves, and control devices (as trained and as required), gather operational data, identify risks, and determine operational responses to maintain safe and          reliable operation of a chemical process plant.
•    Operate DCS equipment to maintain safe control of the reaction process and associated process equipment. Monitor process to ensure the unit is performing within safe operating conditions.
•    Demonstrate working knowledge of plant equipment and the effect each piece of equipment has on total plant operations.
•    Carry out the tasks of assigned areas and positions. Perform unit rounds and safety checks; report and investigate abnormal activities, findings, or equipment problems to Shift Supervisor.
•    Apply training and experience, along with creative problem solving, analytical thinking, and troubleshooting techniques, to effectively troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges in a chemical process plant.
•    Read and interpret P&ID’s, schematic diagrams, procedures, and technical manuals.
•    Create clear and concise log entries.
•    Perform minor maintenance, as authorized and as required. Secure equipment for maintenance and return to service after maintenance is complete.
•    Take feedstock, intermediate, and product samples for Laboratory analysis.
•    Actively participate in unit drills and training.

What you will bring: 

•    CPET graduate or equivalent, plus a 4th Class TSSA Operating Engineer Ticket.
•    Thorough understanding and knowledge of required safety regulations and standard operating procedures in a manufacturing environment.
•    Valid driver’s license.

•    Demonstrated ability to work in a safe and responsible manner.
•    Strong emphasis on ethics; ability to interact openly and honestly with others.
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to resolve conflict.
•    Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and adjust quickly to change.
•    Must be self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
•    Must have the capability to make informed decisions.

Physical demands:

  • Must be able sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be comfortable working from heights and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to climb stair cases, ladders and structures.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop and crawl periodically.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds periodically.
