FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas liquid transportation and processing system with a nominal capacity in excess of one million barrels per day serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend crude oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth

job purpose

Reporting to the Asset Manager, the Operations Manager leads a small office based team of operations specialists and all of the site based Operations and Maintenance Team at offshore and onshore locations of the FPS NORTH asset. They drive a positive and productive culture where team members are engaged and accountable for their work to ensure day-to-day safe, reliable, compliant operations. The program of maintenance and upgrades on the offshore and landline sites will allow the Forties Pipeline System to be operated in a Safe and reliable manner up to 2040+.

principle accountabilities

  • Adhere to and promote Ineos 20 Principles and 7 Life Saving Rules to colleagues and external vendors;
  • Manage the asset areas to ensure safe and environmentally sound Asset operation.
  • Drive development and management of cross functional Asset reliability/vulnerability action plans/strategies to ensure Asset performance is continuously improved to secure medium and long term required performance.
  • Develop and implement strategies in pursuit of operational excellence to improve operating performance in a sustainable manner without introducing unacceptable risks to the business.
  • Provide leadership and co-ordination all other functions/activities in pursuit of agreed current and future performance metrics.
  • Set demand for and co-ordinate all engineering, maintenance, technical and operational support to allow the Asset to meet the short term planning targets.
  • Adhere rigorously to Site and Asset standards/policies in all elements of Asset operation to lead, drive and ensure required operational, SHE and legislative compliance performance.
  • Provide authorisation/sanction of any operational deviations.
  • Act as focal point for the Asset in all interactions with SEPA and HSE and other external bodies.
  • Establish and manage an Asset operating team with the competency and capability to deliver the required short through long term operating performance and associated improvement plans.
  • Define and manage the Asset operating budgets.
  • Define Asset variable cost budget and manage plant operation to achieve or better budget performance. Drive improvement plan to deliver long term improvements in alignment with Asset strategy.
  • Engage with site teams, through periodic site visits & audits.special features
  • Job Holder required to hold/complete offshore competencies to allow plant visits to Unity.

qualifications and technical experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

  • Proven ability to line-manage, coach and develop engineer/supervisor/technician personnel.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to influence across functions and services to drive aligned delivery.
  • Strong communication skills, dealing with all levels in the organisation
  • Strong decision making skills, both within and out with area of expertise
  • Ability to create and manage to a budget

Job-Specific Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of asset operating procedures and activities, including key interactions with other Site operating units
  • Strong knowledge of Site operating standards/procedures and relevant HSE legislation
  • Strong knowledge of Site/Asset working practices to facilitate others to support aligned delivery of the asset operating plan
  • Strong knowledge of project and TAR execution, with specific focus on quality control and associated handover/commissioning requirements
  • Strong awareness of human factors influence on process safety.

Job Knowledge Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of UK offshore and onshore legislation for major hazards industry.
