FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas liquid transportation and processing system with a nominal capacity in excess of one million barrels per day serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend crude oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth

job purpose

The Operations Engineer is accountable for the Operations Engineering at all offshore and onshore sites of the FPS North Asset. The program of maintenance and upgrades on the offshore and landline sites will allow the Forties Pipeline System to be operated in a Safe and reliable manner up to 2040+. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the Operations Engineer will provide operational and process expertise and provide leadership to ensure day-to-day safe, reliable, compliant operations.

principle accountabilities

  • Adhere to and promote Ineos 20 Principles and 7 Life Saving Rules to colleagues and external vendors;
  • Support delivery of the SHE audit agenda;
  • Ensure that root cause analysis and troubleshooting are carried out and to provide expertise and immediate support for the solving of plant unavailability or production losses;
  • Take part in HAZOP, LOPA and SIL studies.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the shift operating team for FPS North to ensure its integrity, safe and optimised operation within its design operating envelope;
  • Deliver the recovery of the plant from unplanned interventions by leadership of multi-discipline execution teams;
  • Train operating technician teams and supervisors in revised instructions and procedures to sustain and improve plant performance to match SHE, process safety and efficiency targets;
  • Mentor FPS North Graduate Process Engineer to ensure their competency and skills are continually improved;
  • Act as W2W/Project Operations Lead when assigned, leading operations elements of event through planning, workscope implementation, pre-commissioning and re-commissioning phases;
  • Provide Process Engineering input and approval for plant modifications to ensure delivery of fit for purpose and fully documented asset improvements (including all TAR modifications scope);
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant availability or variable cost performance. Develop and implement solutions where appropriate or work with discipline engineers as required;
  • Input to activity planning processes to maintain plant integrity and reliability whilst minimising impact on production and cost;
  • Develop, maintain and audit use of all technical and operating information and documentation required for FPS North (LO/LC valve database, P&IDs, Operating
  • Review process engineering data (pressure, temperature and flowrate) for FPS North Assets to ensure plant is operating within its safe operating limits/envelope.  Excursions beyond the safe operating limits are to be fully investigated with corrective actions taken to prevent reoccurrence.

qualifications and technical experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Process/Chemical Engineering background preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Relevant operational experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
  • Demonstrates general management skills, drive and performance, delivery focus

Job-Specific Skills:

  • Emergency Response experience desirable
  • Highly computer literate with a demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Prioritises workload carefully, weighing up the urgency and importance of issues

Job Knowledge Skills:

  • Working understanding of UK offshore legislation including OGA Production Efficiency Guidelines
  • Fully conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD’s, P&ID’s, Data Sheets and Cause Effect charts
