Maintenance Technician (days)

To provide technically competent hands-on maintenance support and trouble shooting to the Compounds manufacturing plant equipment. To deliver improvements to Engineering and Maintenance work execution, planning and plant operations / reliability as defined by the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.

To work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, Asset Engineers and maintenance contractors with a focus on improving equipment integrity and plant reliability at the lowest sustainable cost.

Help ensure the preventative, planned and un-planned (breakdown) activities are executed safely, efficiently, within budget and on schedule. 

Although line management of maintenance technicians is provided by the Maintenance Manager, it will be essential to work well independently, as part of a team, and to lead by example to supervise a group or contractors when required. 

Fulfil day to day requirements of hands-on maintenance of plant equipment within the area of your core trade discipline. Seek to expand knowledge and develop your trade skills beyond area of core competence. Respond to break downs, execute preventative maintenance routines and support planned equipment outages to deliver efficient, right-first-time maintenance. Ensure production / reliability priorities are addressed with urgency. Demonstrate positive attitude towards changing priorities and show willingness to support business needs.

Deliver maintenance work according the plan and feedback on progress via the maintenance management system. Ensure all plant defects are correctly identified and work orders are prioritised, planned/specified and completed safely, on time and to the required standard.

Investigate, report and recommend solutions for specific plant problems to deliver improved safety, reliability, availability, quality, and process efficiency.

Use technical / plant knowledge to develop others within the maintenance team and work together to make timely repairs to plant equipment.

Level of education & Experience in general

· Preferred minimum HNC in Mechanical, Instrumentation or Electrical discipline (MSC’s require NVQ Level 3 or higher in second trade (elec or mech).

· Proven experience in technical problem solving and work execution in a manufacturing environment.

· Broad understanding of maintenance, planning, engineering, and supporting a manufacturing facility.

Technical skills

· Good understanding of rotating equipment including Compounders, Pumps, Blowers, Motors, DC/AC drives, PLC’s.

· Ability to read P&IDs, Mechanical / E+I drawings.

· Ability to write good quality Risk Assessments and follow procedures for safe systems of work.

· Working knowledge of standard IT systems – MS Windows, Lotus Notes, MS Excel and SAP

Salary - starting salary of £34,300, increasing to £36,300 once signed off in the role. 

Pension - 5% employer, 4% employee
