Maintenance Rebuild Supervisor

This Maintenance Rebuild Supervisor is responsible for managing the maintenance rebuild shop to ensure the safe, high-quality, and cost-effective rebuilding and repair of critical equipment. The Maintenance Shop Rebuild Supervisor plans and directs daily shop activities, coordinates priorities with Operations, Reliability and the Planner/Scheduler, and ensures work is executed to defined standards, procedures, and applicable codes. This role develops and leads shop technicians through coaching, feedback, and training, while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, schedule performance, and equipment reliability. This position is designated as a Safety Critical Role.

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the rebuild/repair of critical rotating and mechanical equipment in the maintenance shop (e.g., pumps, gearboxes, agitators, blowers, flue pond piping, valves), ensuring workmanship meets defined standards, procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Coordinates rebuild shop priorities with Operations, Reliability, the Planner/Scheduler, I&E supervision, and other stakeholders; communicate job status, constraints, risks, and recommended actions.
  • Responsible for maintaining and distributing the critical spare parts file
  • Responsible for reviewing and updates all rebuild WO’s in SAP
  • Responsible for getting completed rebuilds returned physically and in SAP to their designated storage location 
  • Ensure PSM, Occupational Health & Safety regulations, and corporate policies are understood and applied so all shop work is completed safely, including LOTO, rigging/lifting, machine guarding, and safe use of shop equipment.
  • Develop, coordinate, and issue daily shop work instructions to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives; set clear expectations for teadown, inspection, measurement, repair, assembly, and test.
  • Drive continuous improvement in rebuild cycle time, rework reduction and cost control while supporting long-term site objectives and maintenance strategies.
  • Assign technicians to planned and emergent rebuild work; establish priorities with the Planner/Scheduler; ensure accurate labor booking, job feedback, and timely closeout in SAP.
  • Work closely with the PM Outage Chlorinator Planner on Chlorinator rebuilds / turnaround work  
  • Responsible for supervising the maintenance technicians and contractors working on the chlorinator rebuild / turnaround
  • Responsible for supervising off shift and weekend work related to the chlorinator rebuild / turnaround work
  •  Supervise all aspects of chlorinator brick, mortar, refractory, ceramic inserts, etc. necessary for rebuilds (Note: Capital Projects team will manage the purchase of refractory and provide technical support and training in refractory insulation)
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks; ensure compliance with safety rules, safe work practices, housekeeping and proper storage/handling of parts and critical spares.
  • Coach and develop shop technicians; build capability in precision maintenance practices (alignment, fits/tolerances, lubrication, balancing, torquing, inspection methods) and ensure accountability to quality standards.
  • Foster teamwork across Maintenance, Reliability, Operations, Engineering, and Purchasing to align on critical equipment needs, outage support, and rebuild standards.
  • Obtain quotes and initiate purchasing requisitions for parts, machining, tooling, equipment rentals, and outside services; coordinate vendor support and outsourced rebuilds as required.
  • Ensures that workplace is free of discrimination and that individuals are treated with respect.
  • Manage the performance and development of rebuild shop personnel through ongoing feedback, annual performance reviews, coaching, counseling, and recognition.
  • Maintain and encourage collaborative resolution of technical and workflow issues among the shop, departments, and contractors to prevent delays and rework.
  • Ensure shop tools, fixtures, lifting devices, test equipment, and other resources are available, inspected, and maintained for safe, competent, and timely completion of rebuild work.
  • Capable of working day shift with off-hours coverage as necessary to support critical equipment events, outages, and rebuild schedule commitments.

You should possess (rebuild/repair focus):

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.  Associate degree in a maintenance related field is desired.  Certified journeyman status in a mechanical trade is an asset without a degree.
  • 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience is desired, including hands-on rebuild/overhaul and repair of rotating/mechanical equipment in a process manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory, coordinator or group leader experience to direct and lead others.
  • Working knowledge and experience with teardown/inspection, measurement, repair, and assembly of rotating equipment and mechanical components (pumps, gearboxes, bearings/seals, couplings, valves) in an industrial environment.
  • Understanding of maintenance and reliability best practices, including precision maintenance, quality control/inspection documentation, and the impact of rebuild quality on unit operations.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), especially SAP, is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to promote / maintain cooperative relationships among employees, peers and supervisors.

This is a salaried, exempt, day shift position.
