The Position: Logistics Coordinator  -

The Logistics Coordinator, Raw Materials, manages the inbound monomers, Channahon packaged raw materials, and any assigned offsite shipping locations.

This position is responsible for: Ordering and arranging for the receipt of raw materials shipped in railcars to the site and the return of empty railcars (primarily mineral oil and rubber); Coordinating the shipments of the Channahon site scrap materials; Providing the necessary reporting and balancing activities necessary to control the complete and accurate recording of finished goods production; Ordering and managing inventory for all raw materials used at the site including styrene monomer; as well as Backing up the Logistics Coordinator, Rail.

What you will do:  

  • Process customer orders in SAP for shipments originating from the Channahon plant and from assigned offsite shipping locations, working directly with Supply and Demand Planners along with Customer Service Representatives and Senior Buyer, communicating shipping requirements to plant personnel, and arranging carrier pick-up and delivery to guarantee on-time shipments of finished goods per customer requirements. 
  • Manage inbound railcars received from BNSF to ensure uninterrupted supply for Channahon plant production while maintaining safe yard capacity and allowing for fluid movement within plant yard, in addition to avoiding BNSF demurrage and disputing invalid charges.
  • Resolve any potential and actual problems directly with carriers and offsite facilities to eliminate customer complaints; includes expediting, diversions, rebilling, unloading overloaded railcars, pump outs of customers silos, return of product, and reporting.  Lead the resolution of distribution problems. 
  • Planning and inventory management for packaged raw materials and for mineral oil and rubber (received via rail), including consumption requirements based production schedules, necessary days on hand, and required reporting based of forecast and actual needs.
  • Generate daily shipping information, maintain databases, and generate required reports, by entering transactions in SAP, using various web or Microsoft applications, or emailing shipping information as needed to customer, and emailing styrene status reports and raw material ETA to company personnel, in order to communicate the complete and accurate status of all customer shipments.
  • Perform NCR investigation, analysis, and resolution, when called upon, to help achieve all goals for customer service.
  • Assist in meeting other customer requirements such as certificates of analysis, customs invoices, metal seal application and/or product grading within customer specification as needed.
  • Participate in PBL, PGI, BBS Observations, Asset Care clean ups and conduct housekeeping safety audits for assigned areas.
  • Daily tracking of tank levels to determine usage rates and when to switch tanks (SM)
  • Setting up barge unloading with tankermen and barge movements; interface with tow captains to determine arrival dates and times, submit Coast Guard notifications
  • Coordinate scrap shipments for the site, including dispatching, paperwork handling and post goods issuing.

What you will bring: 

Level of education & knowledge:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a variety of manufacturing and/ or logistics functions with emphasis on transportation and distribution is required for this position.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A business or college degree is preferred.

Technical skills:

  • Required computer skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Prior experience with SAP is preferred
