ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

The purpose of the Lead Operations Engineer is to provide operational expertise required for delivery of the operating/maintenance plan and longer term Asset strategy. The position will also co-ordinate all functions and provide leadership to ensure safe, reliable and optimised delivery of the agreed plant production plan.

Key accountabilities

  • Act as Plant Manager Deputy as required (including coordination of production plans, MOC approval, ORA approval and directing Operations priorities during PM leave).
  • Full time delegation of Plant Manager Approval for Polymers Operating procedures and Trip override assessments (TORA) produced by Operations Specialists.
  • Directs and ensures competency of the Polymers Shift managers. Set priorities of team to meet operations and maintenance plans including approving and communicating emergent activity. Ensure team are fully focussed on delivering asset SHE objectives in support of safe, reliable and compliant operations.
  • Ensures rigorous compliance of operations technicians to procedures and standards, through Polymers Shift Managers, direction and oversight auditing.
  • Oversight and coordination of production of release work packs to facilitate maintenance activities. Gatekeeper for Maintenance /TAR and project activities to ensure process release plans in place and protect availability of Polymers assets. Identify any non-gate ready activity to plant manager for approval/ or rejection.
  • Provide operations prioritisation of activity/ defects to support functions. This requires influencing across direct team, but also maintenance, production planning, TAR and project organisations. The requirement to balance and direct resources to the highest business priority and where required escalate significant conflicts to Plant Manager.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the Operations Engineers and shift operating team for the plant area to ensure its integrity, safe and optimised operation within its design operating envelope.
  • Audit use of all technical and operating information and documentation required for the plant area.
  • Develop and manage all process documentation to allow safe recommissioning for all maintenance activities (OI’s, COSHH, release and recomm. procedures).
  • Train operating technician teams and supervisors in revised instructions and procedures to sustain and improve plant performance to match SHE, process safety, volume and efficiency targets.
  • Optimise asset care/breakdown maintenance plan to minimise production, cost and SHE impacts.

  • Job holder could be expected to be part of the Grangemouth Site IMT (formal rota).
  • Requirement to be contactable out of hours.
  • Some periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned plant outages.

ABOUT YOU

You should:

  • Have considerable experience as Operations Engineer or similar role in asset operations on another asset.
  • Have strong knowledge of all relevant manufacturing disciplines – Mech, I/E, Control, DCS, Maintenance.
  • Have detailed knowledge of site standards and legislative requirements relevant to all manufacturing activities.
  • Have the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (without line management accountability).
  • Demonstrate strong and wise decision making skills, both within and out with area of direct expertise.
  • Have strong knowledge of site/area working practices to facilitate others to support aligned delivery of the short term operating plan.
  • Demonstrate ability to coach and develop supervisor/technician personnel.
  • Have a high level of communication skills, dealing with all levels in the organisation.
