The Position: The Lead Inspector plays a key role to maintain mechanical integrity and safe operation of operating unit process equipment, and to insure operating compliance with state and federal regulations at the plant.
What you will do:
- Provide technical expertise in the areas of inspection, interpretation and application of codes and standards. Serve as a resource in the area of Inspection and assist in problem solving by using initiative, creativity and acquired job knowledge.
Direct and perform inspections. Interpret inspection data and prepare inspection findings and recommendations using sound technical judgment and knowledge of process equipment and applicable codes and standards.
- Guide maintenance in fabrication processes, codes, specifications and job note interpretations and quality assurance of equipment fabrication and repairs.
- Maintain and assist in the development of the individual process unit(s) inspection program. Responsible for ensuring the assigned unit(s) pressure retaining equipment is safe and reliable and that the Inspection Program is properly established and administered.
- Develop detailed inspection test plans for routine maintenance and TAR activities.
- Supervise and co-ordinate the work of external inspector & NDE contractors.
- Support major shutdown maintenance activities such as turnarounds.
- Review weld procedures and welder qualifications to assure they are correct and conform to applicable code requirements.
- Accept or reject pressure vessel and piping fabrications and repairs using specified non-destructive examination techniques per the applicable codes and/or specifications.
- Own and manage all recommendations outlining deficiencies relating to fixed equipment. Communicate these deficiencies and recommended resolution to appropriate unit management. Effectively influence others to build support for recommendations.
- Maintain and update unit inspection records utilizing PCMS & SAP.
- Develop and maintain inspection reliability procedures.
- Support safety at the plant through participation in PSSR audits, initiation of MOC documents to update PSI-related changes to static equipment and pressure relief devices, completion of assigned incident actions, etc.
- Assist with equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis to provide recommendations for equipment repairs and improvement.
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
- Knowledge of applicable ASME section VIII construction codes
- API-510 pressure vessel inspection code certification
- API-570 process piping inspection code certification
- API-576 Inspection of Pressure Relieving Devices
- Knowledge and certifications for (NDE) nondestructive examination methods, i.e
- Level 2 visual inspection method
- Level 2 dye penetrant inspection method
- Level 2 Radiography film interpretation
- Level 2 Magnetic particle inspection method
- Level 2 pressure testing methods
- Basic metallurgy knowledge
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- Knowledge of the various types process plant corrosion mechanisms (NACE certification preferred)
- Experience in interacting with mechanical engineering, process engineering, and supervision to convey inspection compliance and noncompliance issues pertaining to the process equipment, including advising on possible consequences for non-compliance issues and on resolutions pertaining to the process equipment and piping.
- Ability to establish predictive inspection maintenance frequencies for each piece of fixed equipment, based on corrosion rates and histories to allow for logistical and economical TAR planning relating to execution of inspection compliances.
- Computer skills necessary for data analysis and computations
- Detailed knowledge of process equipment functionality a benefit
Physical demands:
Stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, grasp, and reach throughout the shift, including over varying terrain, including ditches, dikes, and catwalks.
Climb 75' stairs and 200' ladders and enter vessels at various heights through 24" manways
Wear, fit and use a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus, earplugs, goggles, safety glasses, radio, and any other safety equipment
Feel vibrations in pumps, vessels, motors, etc.
Utilize audio, visual, and olfactory senses to monitor the proper operation of plant equipment.
The Location: This opportunity is located in Pasadena, Texas - Styrene United States (US), about 30 miles from downtown Houston. Please note that relocation is not available for this position.
