Laboratory Technician

Role Synopsis

The Laboratory Technician is involved in performing analytical test methods and reporting the test results to the manufacturing units at the Cooper River Plant. They follow established testing procedures in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provides prompt and accurate testing of routine or non-routine samples using the required method/standard.
  • Records and maintains accurate records of analysis.
  • Contributes to the team by meeting team and personal objectives as set.
  • Maintains equipment, calibrations and performance-monitoring checks to ensure accurate records.
  • Enters test results into the laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Communicates any unusual observations made during analysis of samples to help resolve internal non-conformances.
  • Assists the laboratory senior technician and supervisor in the development of new test procedures.
  • Performs routine maintenance on analytical equipment as required for normal lab operations.
  • Performs any required re-testing and communicates off-specification product results.
  • Practices site safety and environmental standards and follows local area policies.
  • Participates in job safety analysis and maintains good work area housekeeping habits.
  • Supports the laboratory's ISO9001 quality management system.
  • Understands and supports the day-to-day operational and longer term strategic goals of the plant and laboratory.

Essential Education

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in a chemical related field or successful completion of at least 2 years of college chemistry or related science.

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

  • The willingness and ability to work rotating shifts and overtime, including nights, weekends and holidays, in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Desirable Criteria / Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of analysis experience in a laboratory environment.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with LIMS.
  • Four-year degree in a science related discipline.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; legally authorized to work in the United States; and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., TN, H1B status), now or in the future.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read English.
  • Environmental Responsibility – must remain cognizant of the duty to operate in a way that protects the environment
