Pay Range: $35/Hr - $48/Hr, commensurate with candidate's relevant experience.

Location: Chocolate Bayou Works – Alvin, TX

Organizational Context and Job Purpose

Business Context

The O&P USA business includes the product lines Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, Polypropylene and High-Density Polyethylene.  Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (LA Porte, TX), and Carson, (Carson, CA), with a division office in League City, TX. 

The Main Purpose of the Role

This position is located at our Chocolate Bayou Works plant in Alvin, TX.  INEOS is hiring a Lab Maintenance Technician to work in our QA/QC Laboratory.  The main purpose of the Lab Maintenance Technician is to maintain lab instrumentation calibration for ISO compliance.  The Lab Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining reliability of the lab instruments and responding quickly to repairs, minimizing downtime and production time without QC results.  This position reports to the Lab Superintendent. 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Perform equipment lifecycle activities and associated deliverables pertaining to laboratory instruments and equipment, including but not limited to the installation, testing, execution of validation activities, calibration, maintenance, change control, retirement activities, the renewal of laboratory instrumentation and equipment service contracts as well as assisting on-site vendor maintenance procedures per contract agreement.

  • Check operation of testing equipment, troubleshoot equipment to identify and/or correct source of problem, perform required routine preventative maintenance, and notify the shift team leader of any abnormalities or maintenance requirements.

  • Schedule maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, including but not limited to gas chromatogram, NMR, ICP, flash point, Karl Fischer titrator, reflective index, densitometer, viscometer, spectrophotometer, UV Vis, and Noack evaporation loss analyzer.

  • Maintain the records of calibration. Assist in maintain and monitor equipment and instrumentation data in the computerized maintenance management system up to date.

  • Maintain equipment inventory and ensure that preventative maintenance is performed according to the manufacturer’s requirements and Standard Operating Procedures. Maintenance such as Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Biannual, and Annual

  • Maintain laboratory maintenance for environment & facility monitoring.

  • Ensuring preventive maintenance is performed according to manufacturer’s requirements and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Train lab users or other staff on SOP and Work Instructions for equipment use.

  • Assist in the drafting of new SOPs, work instruction and the maintenance of existing SOPs related to the departmental activities.

  • Assist with (new) instrument validation through statistical analysis of data, troubleshooting, effective implementation of analytical methods and provision of technical information to relevant parties.

  • Schedule work to meet priorities.

Skills and Knowledge Required

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate (Required)

  • Equipment calibration or equipment preventative maintenance 5 years (Required)

  • Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of gas chromatography equipment for minimum of 5 years (Required)

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with wet chemistry (Required)

  • Associate's degree mechanical or instrumentation maintenance, or process technology (Preferred)

  • Mechanical aptitude for general lab instrumentation (Highly preferred)

  • Familiar with ISO/TS Quality System or equivalent

  • Familiar with Lab Information Systems (LIMS) or similar

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform work tasks on the computer of up to 6-8 hours during the day to include but not limited to ordering supplies and equipment, producing reports, data entry, e-mails, training and other tasks as required.

  • Able to stand for up to 8 hours in a laboratory setting.

  • Able to push or pull using force of approximately ~15 lbs. to manipulate drums on wheeled dollies.

  • Able to handle and manipulate glassware and pipettes with fine motor skills.

  • Some tasks frequently involve bending, kneeling, knee standing and squatting, reaching at various heights up to 70-74 inches without assistance and working at horizontal reaching heights of 16 to 24 inches at chest levels, repetitive fine motor dexterity tasks using approximately up 12 pounds of pinch force, grasping various items using force up to 25 to 30 pounds.

  • Must have ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to hear/perceive nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound with and without protective hearing as required.

  • Operates in a combination of lab and business casual office environments.

  • May be exposed to dust, odors, and fumes.

  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops, photocopiers/scanners, and desk phones.

Schedule

Works 4/10 schedule, Mon - Thu or Tue - Fri depending on coverage needs.  May be required to respond to callouts to work on critical lab equipment.
