The INEOS EtAc plant at Hull is an upper tier COMAH registered plant and the Instrument & Analyser Technician will provide a day-based engineering support service. They will be required to work with minimal supervision as part of a team of operations, instrument, electrical and mechanical personnel and have the ability to maximise the reliability and availability of the INEOS assets and ensure SHE targets are met. This dual skill role is key in ensuring the plant is operated safely to meet the company’s and the regulator’s expectations with safety performance and operational integrity. This requires the application of practical and organisational skills to resolve maintenance issues.
There will be some exposure to Working At Height and Confined Space Entry as part of the role, and there is the expectation that there may be additional hours required during busy periods and in the case of major plant breakdowns.
Requirements of the role:
- Minimum qualifications of an ONC and a recognised apprenticeship NVQ3 or equivalent.
- Previous experience of working within Chemical/ downstream Oil & Gas or associated major accident hazard process industries
- Good practical understanding of ATEX and DSEAR
- Hold current CompEX certification Ex01 to Ex04.
- Good practical understanding of maintaining safety instrumented systems in line with IEC 61511.
- Exposure to Distributed Control Systems, Honeywell HPM/C300, FSC/SM ESD systems preferable.
- Strong faulting finding skills on instrumented systems.
- Experienced in acting as the Lead I&A technician
- Planning and organisational skills.
- Functional Safety and SIL for Instrument Technicians (IEC61511) certification
- Competent in the use of IT based systems e.g. SAP, CMX, Emersons AMS, E&H Fieldcare.
- Small bore / swaglok experience and certification
- Previous experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on Analysers, GCs, TOC, NIR systems
- Previous experience in installation and commissioning

Accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Act as a role model for safety and uphold the “INEOS 20 BEHAVIOURAL & PROCESS SAFETY PRINCIPLES” & “Life Saving Rules” in all activities undertaken.
- Day to day Instrument & Analyser technician core role duties including breakdown and preventative activities, including Control of Work systems, working with permit signatories (preparing permit requests, method statements and risks assessments), regularly liaising with other trade disciplines and coordination of their work and permit requirements, and organising spares, labour and third party interaction upfront to minimise downtime.
- Practising of Preventative Maintenance and use of specialised equipment, including Hazardous area equipment inspections to the IEC60079 standard.
- Responsible for the maintenance of safety critical equipment used in the detection of toxic, flammable gases that may cause harm to personnel, plant or equipment if left undetected.
- The ability to repair and maintain, calibrate, inspect and modify process analysers and sample systems including NIR and GC as well as pH and conductivity analysers.
- First line fault finding on instrument and analyser systems.
- Electronic recording of maintenance activities and interacting with the IT Systems, including knowledge and use of SAP, Excel, Word, Outlook, Power point, and navigating the network drives.
- Initiating maintenance activities and recording thereof in SAP (Notifications and work order feedback)
- Recording and re-ordering of spares on IT systems
