ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

The UKAS accredited in-house inspection body requires a CAT 2 Inspection Engineer to support the existing team in carrying out in-service examinations of a wide range of pressurised and non-pressurised cross-complex process piping systems, pressure vessels, storage tanks and other critical plant equipment.

Key accountabilities

  • Prepare and review Written Schemes of Examination for all types of process pipework, pressure vessels, storage tanks and other plant equipment.
  • Carry out examinations in accordance with the Written Schemes of Examination.
  • Understand the appropriate application and limitations of available NDT techniques including the review and acceptance of NDT results.
  • Write clear and accurate technical reports in a timely manner that fully detail the results of all examination activities carried out.
  • Assess as found deterioration and calculate degradation rates to support decisions on continued operation.
  • Identify repairs and raise appropriate recommendations for remedial action.
  • Participation in risk based inspection studies.

ABOUT YOU

Required:

  • Hold a relevant degree in mechanical or materials engineering or, as a minimum, an HNC in mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience conducting in-service statutory and non-statutory examinations of process pipework, pressure vessels and storage tanks within a high hazard petrochemical manufacturing site.
  • Clear working knowledge of PSSR and other relevant legislation, including COMAH, PUWER & PE(S)R.
  • Extensive practical experience in the application and interpretation of relevant national and international design codes and standards, typically ASME, API, British Standards & EEMUA.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and priorities effectively, work diligently and maintain clear lines of communication with all relevant stakeholders.
  • IT literate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality, accurate inspection reports that clearly reflect the examinations undertaken and findings observed in a timely manner.

Desired:

  • Hold relevant inspection certifications for storage tanks, such as EEMUA 159 or API 653. Other relevant qualifications, such as ASME Plant Inspector, API 510 or API 570 also desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of Credo and Maximo.
