The I&E Designer leverages creativity and understanding of instrument and electrical systems to design, maintain, and improve the physical assets of the organization by creating drawings and material take-offs for the construction, operation, and layout of these systems.

Accountabilities of the job:

Accountability 1: Safety: Process Safety Information (PSI)

  • Requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following, and practicing INEOS 20 Principles of Process & Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position.
  • Update PSI for the plant which is maintained by the Engineering department such as P&ID’s, electrical schematics drawings, as well as specification sheets
  • Ensures that PSI is updated in response to MOC’s, capital projects, maintenance projects or any other source of improvements which affect the PSI of the plant.
  • Assure the safety of employees and contractors through compliance with the OSHA standards, ANSI standards, INEOS Acetyls policies and procedures, and other agencies’ safety regulations, standards, and/or guidelines.
  • Actively participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions, or incidents to supervision.

Accountability 2: Instrument and Electrical Design

  • Prepare detailed design drawings for in-house Front End Engineering Designs (FEED) and detailed design drawings for fast track projects.
  • Revise existing and create new I&E drawings, layouts, specifications and bills of materials with the guidance of an engineer.
  • Revise existing and create new instrument location plans, wiring and loop diagrams, instrument installation details and specifications with the guidance of an engineer.
  • Assemble and issue design packages that will be utilized for construction purposes.
  • Provide I&E design assistance throughout all phases of projects including commissioning and start-up.
  • Preparation of process flow diagrams (PFD), piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID), general equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment and instrument lists for plant, pipeline and related facilities construction projects.
  • Provide design support for routine requests from maintenance and operations personnel.
  • Collect and deliver design and engineering data to both internal and external partners
  • Track progress for your jobs and projects and coordinate with supervision
  • Reviewing vendor and in-house coordination drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Provide support during construction of equipment to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Collaboration on projects to ensure designs are practical, cost effective and meet all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Communicate with vendors to review equipment availability, equipment cost, and installation requirements.
  • Prepare parts lists, procurement lists, bills of material (BOM) and specifications when drawings are complete. Revise lists, drawings and BOM consistent with engineering changes.
  • Perform sizing and electrical load calculations such as cable sizing, conduit sizing, voltage drop, and cable tray using charts and tables, as required to complete work assignments.
  • Assist with performing field surveys, documenting existing conditions, and/or recommending various design solutions.
  • Check field red-lined drawings and generate accurate as-built drawings as needed.
  • Analyze the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems and recommend possible solutions or alternate construction options.
  • Produce drawings and deliverables utilizing company standards within project-approved schedule and budget.
  • Maintain proper file management in accordance with company and industry standards.

Required profile:

Level of Education & Knowledge:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the Electrical & Instrumentation design field in a refinery, midstream or petrochemical industry.

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Experience in computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with design of Instrument and Electrical systems:
    • Electrical Schematics and Wiring Diagrams,
    • Plan and Location Drawings
    • Conduit and Cable Tray Layouts,
    • Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Density, and Other Instrumentation,
    • Instrument Loops, PLC and DCS Designs
  • Must have basic use and knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • ANSI/ISA-5.1-2022
    • API-RP500
  • Experience developing equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as, switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc. and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings with engineering review and approval.
