Role Synopsis

The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician repairs, services and maintenance HVAC equipment, systems and related or connected equipment for both buildings and process related applications at the Cooper River Site.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC equipment and on connected or related equipment that is essential to the proper operation of the HVAC equipment. Examples - Electrical supply to the equipment, controls, related piping and pumps, air distribution.
  • Diagnoses/repair malfunctions or failures in HVAC and related equipment
  • Track and report refrigerant usage on site
  • Performs minor construction, remodeling, and installation of HVAC and related equipment, as required.
  • Assists with training and receives training in the skills related to the HVAC trade.
  • Review the work scope of each job to ensure that they have clear direction.
  • Prepare Permit to Work, and task risk assessments as needed
  • Gain approval of scope changes from the supervisor prior to execution.
  • Ensure that all work executed complies with all applicable procedures, policies, and codes to ensure the protection of the environment and the health and safety of employees and the community in which we operate.
  • Ensure that daily schedule is followed
  • Ensure equipment and maintenance histories are maintained.
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve plant reliability and to reduce unit and plant cost.
  • Assist the planning and scheduling group to develop repair plans/job scope.
  • Recommends changes to the frequency of PM’s to the supervisor.
  • Communicate permitting problems to the supervisor.
  • Ensure housekeeping of shops, trucks, tools and job sites are exceptional.
  • Be available nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • 24 hour on call as scheduled
  • Assist operations and engineering with equipment troubleshooting, as required.

Essential Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five plus years HVAC experience in manufacturing environment, which includes a good working knowledge of equipment, materials, techniques, and safeguards in respective discipline for maintenance and construction.
  • The willingness & ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Work with diverse groups to achieve results and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers.

Certifications/Licenses 

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required
  • Additional HVAC related certifications preferred.

Physical Demands

  • The ability to routinely work in confined spaces for extended periods of time
  • The ability to routinely climb stairs & ladders that can exceed 200 feet in total span with break decks
  • The ability to lift & carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • The ability to put on respirators and other important safety equipment
  • Constant (67-100% of time) exerting over 50 pounds of force (lifting, pulling, pushing, torqueing), standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, carrying, repetitive motions.
  • Working outside 67-100% of time in temperature extremes and noisy environment

Other Requirements (such as Travel, Location)

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; legally authorized to work in the United States; and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., TN, H1B status), now or in the future.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read English.
