They staff our Marina View headquarters at League City, Texas; our fractionating facility located between the communities of Seminole, Texas, and Hobbs, New Mexico; our major manufacturing plants at La Porte and Alvin, Texas; our West Coast manufacturing facility in Carson, California, and seven pipe extrusion plants located across the US.
Purpose of the job:
The Manager, Human Resources is responsible for providing leadership in the development and delivery of HR/people processes that support business strategies, and that minimize the barriers to the organization’s success. This involves developing and executing strategies designed to recruit, motivate, train, retain, and competitively reward competent employees, and ensuring that organizational structures are effective in implementing business strategies.
The position reports directly to the Site Manager at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex in La Porte, TX. This position manages three direct reports.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
Applicant’s must have a demonstrated ability and track record to:
- Drive development, implementation and continued application of strategic human resource practices and processes to ensure alignment of employees with business objectives.
- Promote active and continuous strategic staffing planning.
- Implement programs to improve organizational capability to all levels.
- Lead processes and activities for ongoing improvement of employee productivity and satisfaction through coaching and counselling, team building, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and diagnosis and action planning for areas of opportunity for individuals and work teams across the site.
- Manage and organize the efforts of a team of three human resource, training and communication staff and provide for their personal, professional and career development.
- Drive the change process by taking a proactive role in helping the leadership team to identify and manage change, including improvements in productivity, organizational capability, and employee communication and engagement.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- Undergraduate degree in HR or related field. Advanced degree in related field preferred. SPHR certification helpful.
- Minimum 15 years in a chemical, refining, or industrial manufacturing setting with progressively increasing responsibilities in all aspects of HR and 5-7 years in HR management/supervisory roles
Skills/Competencies
The incumbent should have a deep understanding of, and experience in all functional competencies within HR: employment law and labor relations; salary administration - design and administration of compensation and reward programs as well as a fairly strong working knowledge of benefit plan design and administration; affirmative action and statutory compliance issues; general employee relations activities; organizational design; job evaluation and structure; skills assessments and training and development; recruiting and staffing strategies and activities. Successful incumbents will have excellent verbal and written communications skills. Successful incumbents will have strong business acumen to assess the impact of people issues/decision on business results, and strategic orientation to tailor HR activities to support business objectives. Applicants must be seen as a respected resource and counsel on HR issues and how they impact business strategies.
