Head of Commercial, Asia

This senior role is to lead the Commercial function while maximising INEOS EBITDA in Asia for the Acetyls Business. This role needs to fully utilize our market position in Asia, especially working with our five Joint ventures and business partners. Also work closely with Global team to identify cross-region commercial optimization opportunities.

 

Internal factors:

  • Product availability & economics – post holder must work closely with JV heads  to understand product availability for Sales and the cost of production, to ensure satisfactory margins.
  • Customer Service & logistics – post holder must manage the supply chain and customer service team to fulfill customer requirements and optimize cost to serve.
  • Finance/Credit – awareness of credit worthiness of all customers, payment performance and business drivers in terms of cash, margins & EBITDA.

 

External factors:

  • Market – in-depth understanding of the Acetic Acid and related commodity market to form market insight to capture opportunities and migitate risks.
  • Customers – relationships with strategic customers is a key success factor for this role, and capable to find win-win solution to achieve and maintain long term  contracts in critical market.
  • Media & Publications – With strong complaint sense, to maintain regular communications with 3rd party market reporters such as ICIS and IHS.

Accountabilities of the job:

  • Accountable for the overall commercial performance of Acetyls Asia, in accordance with agreed targets, KPIs and milestones set with Head of Acetyls Asia.
  • Responsible for all Acetic Acid export business in the Asian market, including sourcing from our JV’s, inventory management, chartering and shipping and exposure management, term contract strategy and spot deal tactics;
  • Accountable for coordination with Europe and US teams to achieve maximum EBITDA for INEOS Acetyls Global business.
  • Responsible for leading supply chain and customer service teams to ensure a safe, smooth and cost-efficient commercial operation.
  • Provide assurance on compliance with relevant policy and regulations, with focus on Anti-bribery & Anti-trust, conflict of interest. Also accountable for tax risks in international trading like PE and TP.
  • Responsible for Asia marketing activity including market/competitiveness analysis, supply/demand, short-term margin forecast, enhancement of marketing plan & commercial strategy in Asia through portfolio high-grading, Cost To Serve analysis, value selling, key account management, etc.
  • Sustain and upgrade the right organizational capability in the commercial team, to attract, retain and develop talents in Asia.

Required profile:

Level of education & Experience

Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, MBA preferred.

10+ years of commercial team leader experience in chemical industry, and solid understand about commodity market and shipping market.

4+ years of experience of cross-region team management.

Technical skills

  • Prior experience in commodity commercial strategy and execution, and strong commercial sense in spot/term market to maximize commercial value.
  • Deep experience of the Acid industrial chain in China and rest of Asia market, and good connection to market contacts.

Behavioural skills

  • Strong strategic thinking and structural logic to handle dynamic changes and capture opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • In-depth understanding of JV operation and strong communication skill with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership to achieve high alignment in complicated environment, and also need to be inclusive to adopt different culture and practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with expertise in creating trust and generating value from key relationships.
  • Team player, able to establish effective working relationships across teams including third parties. Track record of fostering networks to enhance effectiveness and share knowledge.
  • Experience in leading, managing and motivating a commercial team.
