ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the provision of an accurate and timely financial accounting service for a number of UK-registered companies and component accounting of a Swiss-registered entity, covering transactional accounting, financial control and statutory reporting, ensuring these conform to Group reporting standards. This will be achieved through the direct line management of a small team including a Reporting Accountant and two Finance Assistants.

Key accountabilities

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the general ledger across all entities you have responsibility over. This includes implementing and maintaining strong internal controls, reviewing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and standards.
  • Lead the timely and accurate completion and review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are substantiated and variances are investigated and resolved.
  • Manage the reconciliation of intercompany balances across the group and ensure formal agreements are in place for intercompany transactions.
  • Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements for UK entities, ensuring they are completed in accordance with local GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of corporation tax calculation files, ensuring accuracy and alignment with statutory obligations.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies, facilitating smooth audit processes by providing timely and accurate information.
  • Lead and develop your section of the General Ledger team by providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Manage the preparation of supplementary financial schedules required for entities, supporting group reporting in HFM and periodic compliance.
  • Provide expert support in resolving complex financial queries raised by the Consolidation Accountant and Business Unit Controllers. This involves investigating issues, ensuring data integrity, and facilitating accurate group-level reporting and analysis.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for general ledger processes across European and Asian entities within EOP. Share best practices, standardise procedures, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across the group.

Special features

  • There will be periods of inconvenience at month-end and year-end to meet INEOS Group deadlines.
  • The role has three direct reports and therefore includes people management responsibilities such as objective setting, performance appraisals (mid and full year), performance management and setting individual development plans.

ABOUT YOU

Required:

  • Fully qualified accountant, or qualified by experience with considerable demonstratable experience
  • Ability to line manage effectively, providing appropriate leadership and guidance
  • Exposure to statutory accounting and analysis
  • Professional accounting level knowledge of accounting control procedures and UK GAAP and IFRS
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving approach
  • Systems knowledge and experience – SAP, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Expert in use of Microsoft Excel
  • Good interpersonal, communication and people management skills with the ability to communicate technical accounting principles to non-accountants
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Strong resilience: ability to work productively when under pressure, meet tight deadlines and multi-task
  • Ability to deliver projects using a logical and well-planned approach

Formal Interview

Successful applicants will then be invited to interview which will consist of behavioural and technical questions. For some roles the recruitment process may also include technical testing, behaviour questionnaires and/ or a delivering a presentation.
