ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

We are currently looking for a part-qualified Financial Accountant with payroll experience to join the European Accounting Team working on-site at our office in Grangemouth. The European Accounting Team provides transaction accounting services to a number of businesses based both in the UK and abroad. Please note the position is known internally as a Payroll Accountant and the role sits within our finance function.

Key accountabilities

Provide a payroll accounting service to the UK based INEOS businesses on site for 4 legal entities, providing cover for 1 other UK legal entity and 1 US legal entity, including but not limited to:

  • Collation and preparation of payroll journal postings to ensure that monthly accounting for the UK payrolls are completed in accordance with the monthly timetable.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of payroll components to ensure that accounting is accurate.
  • Prepare all disbursements related to payroll ensuring that they are made on time to the correct recipients and approved.
  • Maintain up-to-date reconciliations for payroll related balance sheet accounts, escalating outstanding items on a timely basis.
  • Administer and monitor the process for certain payroll deductions.
  • Maintain good relationships with the reporting accountants, business controllers and HR team. 
  • Collation of information for disclosures in the year end statutory accounts and primary contact for external audit payroll related queries.
  • Collate and submit payroll related National Statistics returns.
  • Collation and review of information for inclusion in the tax year end P11d and PSA returns to ensure accuracy and filing per HMRC submission deadlines.
  • Provision of payroll related information for ad-hoc queries.
  • Identify and recommend areas for process improvement.
  • Ensure procedures are maintained.

Support other activities within the team, including:

  • Monitoring of Maximo interfaces to identify and correct errors to ensure business results are complete.
  • Complete weekly and 4 weekly cash forecasts for INEOS Chemicals Grangemouth Limited and provide payroll related input to other forecasts prepared within the business.
  • Process sundry payment requests either through issuing cheques or bank payments.
  • Extract, review and process AMEX procurement card data to ensure purchasing costs are fully reflected in the financial results.

ABOUT YOU

Required:

  • Part-qualified accountant with 2-3 years’ experience or qualified by experience.
  • Considerable experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of preparing reconciliations.
  • Excellent experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Flexible and a team player.
  • Quick learner who is not afraid to ask questions and challenge processes.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Desired:

  • Have previous knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Understand HMRC reporting requirements for PAYE.
