The INEOS Joliet facility was originally constructed by Amoco starting in 1957. At our ~775-acre site in Channahon township, (about 40 miles southwest of Chicago) we produce three products - Purified Isophthalic Acid (PIA), Trimellitic Anhydride (TMA) and Maleic Anhydride (MAN). The proprietary technologies used by INEOS Joliet were originally developed by Amoco at the site.
Main Purpose
The job holder will be responsible for sourcing all raw materials, chemicals, catalysts, and energy for the site. Core objectives include assessing & cost effectively mitigating supply risks, developing, and maintaining account relationships, vetting alternatives, and successfully negotiating contracts that lead to reduced costs.
The role covers the INEOS Joliet Chemicals business which is one of the Enterprises Business Units. This requires the job holder to work as part of a commercial team which manages all aspects of customer service, planning, logistics to support both the production site based in Joliet, IL and the supply chain operations across the globe.
As part of a relatively small, stand-alone procurement team the individual must be flexible in approach and will be called upon to assist in various activities for which they are capable.
The individual will report to the Vice President of Commercial. This role is critical to business success with raw materials, chemicals, and catalysts accounting for over $150 million or 60% of total external spend in a highly competitive market.
Externally, the job holder will be required to build good working relationships with a range of suppliers.
RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
Accountable for developing the strategy to achieve cost effective sourcing of feedstocks, chemicals, catalysts, and energy for the business.
- Develop sourcing strategy for all feedstocks, chemicals, catalysts, and energy.
- Assess risk associated with feedstock and energy supply and develop risk mitigation strategies to cost effectively reduce risk to the business.
- Develop relationships with existing and prospective suppliers to create competition and supply alternatives that lead to reduced costs with high security of supply.
- Develop relationships within the INEOS procurement network to leverage INEOS purchasing power and knowledge.
Lead negotiation of supply contracts that align with the overall business vision and strategies.
- Manage contract status of feedstocks and energy to timely conduct bid proposals.
- Negotiate and maintain contracts and supplier relationships that cost effectively manage risk and cost.
- Ensure contracts adhere to INEOS standards and specifications.
Accountable as knowledge expert for the site on supply risks, terms, market conditions and regulatory changes.
- Leveraging consultants such as IHS, Edison Energy, and other data sources, develop an understanding of core supply and demand drivers for all feedstocks and energy for the business.
- Monitor industry changes to feedstock and energy supply, including regulatory changes that could impact supply.
- Be aware of and participate in INEOS sustainability goals when sourcing feedstocks and energy for the site.
- Develop and improve business processes related to feedstock and energy procurement.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- Experienced strategic procurement professional with at least seven years’ experience in strategic procurement preferable involving feedstocks and energy for a manufacturing facility.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills/Competencies
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of contract negotiation, risk evaluation and mitigation, sourcing strategy development, and a track record of delivering cost savings through identifying opportunities and driving complex suppler negotiations to closure.
- Experience developing and managing contracts.
- Experience with ERP system i.e. SAP, Maximo, etc.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data on a computer monitor. The employee must walk, stand, and travel by car or other means. They must be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork.
