European Sustainability Manager

From soft drink bottles to packaging trays, from clothing to carpet, INEOS Aromatics makes the chemicals used to produce many of the things we use in our daily lives.

Our main products include paraxylene (PX) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA). PTA is a raw material used in the manufacture of polyesters used to make fibres, textiles, film, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. PX is a feedstock for PTA production. We also produce a number of other specialty petrochemicals products, including metaxylene. We care about how we deliver these essential products to the world. Above everything, the safety, reliability and excellence in our operations is fundamental to our success. Our progress comes from the energy of our people, a team committed to continuous improvement and excellence.

European Sustainability Manager

Purpose of the job

The European Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing and delivering Aromatics European sustainability strategy and driving related development, compliance reporting and advocacy activities at a regional level. This includes working closely with the commercial team to develop opportunities for existing and future business endeavours and supporting their sustainability related conversations with customers.

The role supports projects with respect to advising on legislative risks, GHG footprint advocacy and risk mitigation. The role also supports the Global Aromatics sustainability agenda, particularly in respect of Product environmental footprint (PEF) and Life cycle assessment (LCA), by acting as a subject matter expert.

Environment and context

INEOS Aromatics has a strong focus on developing new technologies to advance a sustainable and low carbon future and to develop INEOS’ contribution to the circular economy. Our PTAir® technology, for example, enables us to produce PTA with a ~30% lower carbon footprint than the average European PTA production. Recently we also completed the construction of a pilot plant to prove a new chemical recycling technology, known as INFINIA®. The technology deals with post-consumer polyester waste that is difficult or impossible to recycle using mechanical methods, enabling this waste to be transformed back into new, virgin-quality feedstocks.
