We’re looking for an Environmental Specialist to join the INEOS Acetyls team. We need highly motivated individuals who want to be part of our growing business.
INEOS Acetyls is a global chemicals business producing acetic acid and a range of derivatives across Europe, Asia, and America. We’re part of INEOS - one of the largest petrochemical companies in the world, employing around 26,000 people across 194 sites in 29 countries.
You will be based at the Hull site, which is the largest producer of acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and ethyl acetate in Europe. The products we produce are essential building blocks used in almost every industry, including renewable power, automotive, pharmaceuticals, coatings, and textiles.
Hull is also home to the business's global Technology Development and Support Team and is based on the 370-acre Saltend Chemicals Park - a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses at the heart of the UK's energy estuary.

The opportunity
As an Environmental Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our operations comply with environmental legislation, health and safety legislation and INEOS requirements whilst actively promoting environmental good practice. The Environmental Specialist is the subject matter expert for environmental matters at the Hull site and is part of a wider team that upholds the values of the safety, health and environmental policy. The successful incumbent will be responsible for maintaining good working relationships with the regulator and local environmental and conservation groups.

Key accountabilities
- Manage environmental management programme and the environmental management system.
- Subject matter expert for environmental legislation and INEOS environmental standards.
- Operational owner of the INEOS Waste Management contract.
- Support assurance processes and self-verification systems on site.
- Manage waste minimisation plan for the INEOS Acetyls
- Manage the greenhouse gas emissions permit under the environmental trading scheme (ETS) and coordinate the relevant information for verification.
- Responsible for the relevant areas coordination for ISO-9001
- Responsible for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and lead for internal environmental audits. Duty includes reporting and updating the BSI Auditor of any EA notifications.
- Responsible for developing the environmental strategy & the forward agenda for sustaining environmental performance.
- Champion environmental improvements via the Asset plan and Capex programs.
- Assist in the creation and management of the Carbon Plan for the INEOS Acetyls.
- Lead greenhouse gas emissions and energy management for the site.
- Manage the site environmental permit and prepare any correspondence to the regulator or applications for variations that may be required and reporting of any permit breaches.
About you
We are looking for someone with the following Education/Experience:
- A degree in environmental management / chemical engineering or similar with essential experience in the oil, gas or petrochemical business.
- Experience in an oil, gas or petrochemicals business
- Experience in environmental or operations management.
- Working knowledge of key environmental legislation.
- Experience of working with the UK Environment Agency
- Auditing experience.
- Working knowledge of basic health, safety, security and crisis and continuity management legislation.
Technical experience:
- Environmental abatement techniques.
- Environmental risk assessment.
- Environmental and social impact assessment.
- Water and wastewater management.
- Air emission sampling and monitoring.
