about the role

Reporting to the North Asset Manager, the Engineering and Technical Manager is responsible for leading and shaping the engineering and technical capability for INEOS FPS North in support of the Operations, Maintenance and Improvement activities of the asset at Onshore and Offshore locations of the Asset. The role focuses on translating business strategy into engineering and technical activities, ensuring that Asset and Organisational objectives are consistently achieved.

The Engineering and Technical Manager provides leadership across the Engineering and Technical Organisation, driving performance, accountability and alignment across teams and stakeholders. This includes establishing effective governance, optimising delivery processes and ensuring engineering and activities are adequately resourced and prioritised to deliver sustainable improvements in safety, reliability and operational performance.

What does the day to day look like?

Engineering and Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and coordinate delivery across the multi disciplined engineering and technical team (Process Safety, Instrument, Electrical, Mechanical, Pipeline Wayleave Management, Excavation, and repair), ensuring alignment with business priorities and operational objectives.
  • Advocate good practice, provide guidance and coaching to Team Leaders, Engineers, and Specialists .
  • Formally sanction all technical change on the asset to assure continued operation within design and regulatory boundaries.
  • Provide clear strategic direction and support to team members.
  • Drive accountability, performance and delivery across all Engineering and Technical activities.
  • Proactively manage issues, risks and interdependencies to maintain progress.

Strategy & Performance

  • Develop, deliver and sustain an ‘Equipment Life Plan’ to meet business goals for integrity, reliability, timing and value. 
  • Preparing and presenting options available to inform the selection of choices in the 5 year business plan to meet regulatory, SHE, availability, cost targets.
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators to define compliance against critical safety equipment to meet the asset requirements for safety, service level, quality, cost and timing.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Champion a culture of improvement and innovation.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance engineering and technical working practices.
  • Support the adoption of new tools, processes and ideas.
  • Identify improvement initiatives, to meet short and long term business goals for engineering integrity, reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead technical investigation teams to identify and understand the root causes of equipment and systems failures and recommend actions and processes to prevent future recurrence.

what do I need?

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • High personal integrity and commitment to safety.
  • Strong background in risk management.
  • Experience of process design, commissioning and plant operation.
  • Strong experience in Management of Change process.
  • Proven ability to line-manage, coach and develop personnel in multi discipline teams.
  • Proven ability to work with external agencies.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills, both within and out with areas of expertise.
  • Commercial awareness and budget management experience.

Technical Knowledge

  • Have an in-depth knowledge in the management of major accident hazard pipelines and the legislation required to maintain safe operation. 
  • Good working knowledge of the law as it applies to the design, operation, maintenance and instrument, control, mechanical and pipeline equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of the technologies of the upstream and mid stream assets
  • Strong knowledge of the standards associated with process design and operation.
  • In depth knowledge of semi quantitative and quantitative risk management techniques.
