ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

Having committed to significant investment over the next few years, we now require an Electrical Power Distribution Technician with relevant experience to play a key role in the delivery and support of this growth in our business.

The purpose of the role is to install, test, maintain and improve high and low voltage power distribution equipment to allow the manufacturing processes to operate in a safe and reliable manner to meet the business demand of the site. The team also provide 24/7 assistance to the site for non-routine, high priority plant maintenance issues.

This role will be expected to work out with normal hours as necessary to support planned and unplanned activities.

Key accountabilities

Maintenance of site electrical power distribution network:

  • Carry out operational switching of the power distribution network up to 33kV:
    • High voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, including oil, vacuum and SF6 types
      • 33kV, 11kV, 3.3kV, up to 2500A
    • Low voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, air insulated
      • 690V, 440V, 415V, up to 5000A
    • Distribution transformers up to 33kV, 80MVA
  • Issuing / clearing safety documents for personnel working on the system
  • Primary and secondary injection testing of protection relays and metering devices

Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment:

  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship and adopt all required safe working practices in completion of tasks.
  • Adhere to all current procedures.
  • Participate in all site SHE initiatives, systems and controls e.g. permit to work, safety tours, procedures, COSHH and risk assessments etc.
  • Participate in work handover with permit issuing authority to ensure risks fully understood in advance, job completed safely and left in tidy condition.

Responsible for maintaining safe and efficient maintenance service to the site to support business plans for volume, quality, reliability, fixed costs, variable costs and customer service:

  • Inspect and maintain equipment to agreed priorities and plans within safety and operational procedures to ensure any potential faults are identified and acted on in advance of failure.
  • Examine faulty equipment in order to accurately ascertain nature of fault and implement effective repairs to agreed priorities and plans
  • Procure spares required for repairs from stores to expedite repair of equipment.
  • Record progress and details of work and inspections carried out in Maximo maintenance record system to update equipment status and provide an accurate history of work carried out.
  • Identify and implement improvements to work methods and equipment to eliminate faults and inefficiencies to improve overall and SHE performance.

Other accountabilities

  • Contribute to, and participate in, personal and Team training and development plans to enhance own and Team performance
  • Identify and co-ordinate support services and resources requirements to expedite repair of equipment
  • Assist, within their capabilities and competence, any other members of the team in any critical activities to expedite turnaround of equipment or systems to meet objectives.
  • Mentor trainees
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of plant instructions and procedures.

ABOUT YOU

You should:

  • Have a proven track record of delivery across a broad range of High and Low Voltage equipment, set piece equipment overhauls and plant/equipment troubleshooting.
  • Have experience of HV switching and protection testing.
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication skills.
  • Have strong decision making skills within area of expertise.
  • Be able to demonstrate initiative in resolving issues.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of site operating standards/procedures, legislation, electrical equipment maintenance, operation and electrical engineering technical know-how
  • Be educated to NVQ Level 3 and/or HNC equivalent in an electrical discipline.

Please note the post-holder will be expected to become Senior Authorised for switching on the electrical network up to and including 33kV.
